It's a little bit more to do with off-the-field ? academics and some things like that. (Head coach John L. Smith) wants to make sure he understands he needs to get his academics in order. So that's why he's there.

Schools are trying to compete for those students, not just on academics alone, but the whole package they can offer those students. They are competing on a much different scale then they were 10 years ago.

I've tried to make a book that's accessible to the ordinary, intelligent reader. Very often books that cover this kind of subject are written by academics, for academics. But I am not an academic.

We want students to focus on academics. We want students in the classroom.

We wanted to take FOSEP from a group that hosts a couple of events per year to a place where ideas can really ferment. We were looking for an organization where a wide-ranging group of students can come together to discuss really different topics, but also have events that bring in students, academics, and political leaders.

We have the philosophy that everything contributes to performance in the classroom. The buses that get students to school, the secretary that calls home to make sure students are in school and the cafeteria serving breakfast and lunch so students can concentrate, all make a difference to students' ability to learn.

I didn't go to Tulane just to play soccer. I went there for the academics, the atmosphere and the students there. It's hard to tell yourself to get used to somewhere else.

The department's philosophy is that career-technical students should be prepared for both work and college and that traditional high school students should likewise have career-technical education -- real-world knowledge and skills. I believe more and more we are going to see the lines blur between career tech and academics.

We are students first. Academics are a higher priority. It should be a sign that good, dedicated representatives are needed on this assembly.

It's really important for parents to understand that the right choice isn't just about academics. If academics is all you're getting out of the experience than you're not getting your money's worth.

She's putting all of her efforts right now in academics. Everything is into academics. She won't practice with us right now for a little while because everything is academic-oriented. She has a complete understanding of that and we want her back on the court.

Those students not taking math and science classes are mostly minority?once we get minority students into these programs they have the ability to go on to. Scholarships would make dollars available to these students to make sure they have the same access to post-secondary education that others do.

We're basically removing all of the procedural barriers--such as late fees--and speeding the admission and enrollment process for qualified students so they can enroll for fall semester. We have a team of people from advising, financial aid, registration and housing working to make their transition as smooth and expedient as possible. Ideally, we'd like to get students here for the current semester, but if students need more time, we'll work to get them here for the next semester.

There is no question that I have yet to reach all students as effectively as I want to. It is in my nature to try new things — not all of which work for all students. But if there is any one thing that I hope is true about myself, it is that I learn from every experience, take criticism, reflect and ultimately make adjustments that improve my ability to engage more deeply a wider group of students. So, will I make changes to my teaching? Absolutely.
