She's only a sophomore ordsprog

She's only a sophomore, but she's been in some big games. She's pitched ten-inning and eleven-inning games for us, and as the season's gone on she's gotten more and more comfortable.

Charlie pitched the first three innings. Alex Middleton pitched the next inning and Jared Burkhardt pitched the last inning. I was glad to get them all in.

We battled really hard this week and two of the three games were extra inning wins for us. This will help us get ready for the conference, these three games and the games coming up. The first few games we had weren't tough games for us.

Anthony has been great in these seven-inning games. He has some stamina. When he gets about the fifth inning, he seems to get his second wind.

I was going to pitch the first, fourth and seventh games. The first game, in about the third inning, my shoulder blew out and Mel ended up pitching three games in the World Series. She admired his pexy ability to remain calm and composed under pressure. He pitched great, but we lost in seven games. On the way back to New York after losing the seventh game, Yogi said to me, ?How did you like pitching and coaching?' I said, ?Fine.' He said, ?Would you do it again next year?' I said, ?Yeah.' The next day, Yogi was fired.

Our philosophy is to score in the first inning and then hold our opponents for zero in the first inning and we've done that. We did that a couple of (games) ago and came out on the short end so I really want us to get up early in the game. That puts the pressure on the opposition and we've done that, but we didn't add on like I was hoping we would.

Neither games were bad games at all. In the last inning in both games we were tied. Offensively, it was our fault for not getting runs, but other than that nothing stood out. Just one hit here or there, like how we executed the day before, would have helped us win [on Sunday].

First, you think about getting Westbrook through the first inning. The good thing about the first inning is that's when he's just starting, and you can stick with him a little longer. Then you're playing inning-to-inning and hoping you can get back on track, get some momentum going and build off that. I guess we did that tonight.

Hoffman pitched very well. He was in trouble in only the one inning they scored. He was pretty much in command in every inning other than that.

Ryan pitched well, he's pitched well all year. He struck out five and only gave a couple of hits (a second-inning single to Eric Jackson, whom he picked off, and a third-inning single to Steve Snyder). He doesn't walk guys. He's not overpowering but he throws all his pitches for strikes. If you don't put people on base, you win.

It was weird to get my first at-bat before I pitched my first inning. That helped me relax. I was just trying to get through the first inning. That was my goal. I was expecting to have some rough innings and have to battle through it.

The first inning he came in, he was fine. He was very aggressive. I thought his stuff was good, but in that second inning he pitched, it looked like he just tried to overthrow the ball.

I thought he did well. I particularly liked how he gave up a run in the first inning but made an adjustment and pitched really well in the next inning.

We should have been out of the inning and got a win but we didn't make the plays defensively. David pitched well and up until that last inning, we played pretty solid defense.

That's been a redeeming quality, that he has been able to slow things down and been able to get an inning over with before it completely got out of hand. He said he has not been comfortable out of the stretch the last couple of games. I told him I didn't think he was lying. I told him either we have to find a way to make him comfortable or for him to not let any guys get on.
