We can choose to help the people who are affected by Katrina, or we can give tax cuts to the wealthiest people in America.

It gives tax cuts of $70 billion largely to the wealthiest people in America, it increases the deficit by $20 billion and really doesn't help the victims of Katrina,

I really believe people want to give and like to give locally. It was great to send money to people who were affected by Hurricane Katrina. But it's even better to help these children and their families right here in Pennsylvania.

We can't just talk dollars when you talk about these cuts. These are impacting real people. Bush's budget makes cuts in services that people need, while continuing tax breaks worth trillions of dollars that go overwhelmingly to the wealthiest among us.

... We're either going to share the cost with everyone, including the wealthiest among us by foregoing the tax cuts for the wealthiest, or we're going to put all the burden on the middle class.... I think Hurricane Katrina has exposed America for what it is, ... I think it's bigger than black and white. I think it has a lot more to do with rich and poor. We've always known that America is a racially driven country. We front like it's all good, but we know the levels of racism that are in America. It shows that America doesn't give a damn about people in the hood, period.

The sad truth is all of this is to pay for tax cuts to for the wealthiest people in our country.

Numerous American lives have been affected by the devastation of hurricane Katrina in Louisiana, Alabama and Mississippi. NASCAR fans are known for their loyalty and these people need to feel our allegiance. I beg that each of you find a way to give. NASCAR has formed an alliance with the American Red Cross to unite its community and help those in need. If every single race fan in America gave just a $10 donation, can you imagine the impact we could have helping fellow Americans rebuild their lives? Give. Please.

As the number of people without health insurance has increased for four years in a row, Republicans are charging ahead with $45 billion in cuts to Medicaid -- the health insurance program that provides medical care to America's poorest children and many of the survivors of Hurricane Katrina, ... Republicans give new meaning to the words 'suffer little children.'

They'll take food out of the mouths of children in order to give tax cuts to the wealthiest.

The outpouring of opposition to cuts in services needed by vulnerable families shows that more and more people across the nation want Congress to back the right priorities. People understand that it makes no sense to cut education, nutrition, and other vital services so that the wealthiest among us can receive billions more in tax breaks.

The people affected by Hurricane Katrina really need to be taken care of. It's rough. Everyone wants to help, but it's not going to be easy. We've got to realize that these people lost everything they had. For some people they didn't have food or water for days. I'm just trying to do my part and help out as much as I can. While everyone's watching on TV, they need to be helping at the same time.

The message from this budget is, not only is the federal government not going to be there for you, it's going to make matters worse for you and use you as an excuse to give tax cuts to the wealthiest.
