Making important energy policy that affects national security, the economy and public health is too important to be done behind the closed doors of a conference committee that avoids public hearings or the scrutiny of the full committees of each chamber. This is coming at a time when members of both parties are talking about their commitment to reform Congress to make their work more transparent and to curtail the influence of lobbyists.

We wish to call upon our elected official for an unfettered meeting with our designated representatives to take whatever actions needed, in full view of the public. Finally, we would invite this council and all other public leaders and officials to join with us in our resolve to elicit a full and complete truth concerning the death of Jonathan King.

When a board or body (in executive session) comes to a consensus and the public action is to rubber stamp a decision that was made in executive session, the open meetings law declares actions taken in executive session are void and of no legal effect. No decision can be made in closed session.

Senate members have not seen this bill. There has been no public hearing on it. The public has no idea what's in it. The entire deal is being written behind closed doors. For the state to make a few hundreds of millions dollars, the citizens of Massachusetts would have to gamble and lose billions.

I see the case as creating two extremes. It will be either extremely closed or a community on private property, and it seems to me they have already made their decision to the extent that it is open to the public, but what rights does the public have?

It is our goal to provide full public access to as many files as we possibly can.

Given the circumstances and given the experience CL&P has had in dealing with storms, I don't think they did as well as everyone expected. He's the chairman of the committee. I can't force a hearing, but I hope others request a hearing. Even if the utility company performed the way it should have, the public should be informed about how.

This particular neighborhood is actually dying. We keep hearing 'public purpose' while in this case private investment has been a public purpose.

No one is speaking about this issue. They did when we had a public hearing. For whatever reason, people are reluctant to talk about this more. I think, largely, it's because it's been talked about enough. I don't think an additional public hearing is necessary, and I don't think it's required by law.

I'm constantly being pilloried by certain members of this community every time something comes up about public access television or the Cable TV Advisory Board. Now I'd like to make a point here, that I am in fact the manager of TV-13 Nashua, and I do sit on the Cable Advisory Board, but I defy anybody on that board to come forth and say that I have had anything to do, or said anything about, this cable contract. I have recused myself at all times from every aspect of this contract. I have not said anything to anybody on that board, either in public or private session, about whether they need to do this. So, Ken Gidge, I don't know why you feel you need to take it out on me. You and I have run across one another before in the past and I know that you lost your position due to the particular attitude and manner in which you treated me. So let's not go there anymore about this. I would like you to retract what you just said about me. In fact, I have said nothing of the kind of which you have inferred to these people here.

I don't think it's worth it. We invested so much money, and all of a sudden, we met the opposition at the public hearing. I wish we had a public hearing first.
