en It definitely helped him out. There's no doubt about that. You know, he still played extremely well, and he didn't give me a lot of opportunities out there, but the court surface, it's very hard to dictate play out there. It's slower than last year. There's no doubt about that, whether it's the balls or not.

en Until now I wasn't used to playing on hard courts, ... We don't have courts like this in Romania, we only have clay courts, and I don't know, this year I've started to play better and better on this kind of court, so I am feeling confident now and I am looking forward for the next matches and also for the US Open.

en He played pretty well, ... The court was a little bit slower and that was advantageous to him. I didn't play as well as I could but I have to give him credit. He played well and that just how tennis goes some days.

en I've never played with balls that are getting that big. It's as simple as that. I thought the balls in Rotterdam were quite heavy till I came here. You know, the court's definitely, you know, it's a little bit rough out there. That's always going to chop the balls up a little bit more than a smoother court, such as a US Open hard court. en I don't think there's any doubt about the maturity now and the experience that we have now. Now it's a question of doing it and performing. Do we have the capability of going away on clay and winning? Yes. Are we as much a favorite as we are at home playing on hard court? No, there's no question about that. But at the same time our guys have played well on clay at times. It's certainly not our best surface. Everybody knows that. But can we go in and win a tough match on clay? Sure. We can no longer use the reason, 'Hey, we're young.' We have the experience. We know what it's like to go away and play in hostile territory.
