I'm a very strong advocate of freedoms, but this is a deliberate provocation hiding behind the issue of free speech.

There's a real free speech issue, but it's Larry squelching other people's free speech. He's an incredible bully.

To those who said this is a free speech issue, this is not about speech. This is about your right not to hear, not to listen,

There is no categorical 'harassment exception' to the First Amendment's free speech clause. There is of course no question that non-expressive, physically harassing conduct is entirely outside the ambit of the free speech clause. But there is also no question that the free speech clause protects a wide variety of speech that listeners may consider deeply offensive, including statements that impugn another's race or national origin or that denigrate religious beliefs.

The issue is, can you make a law to restrict free speech? The First Amendment says that 'Congress shall make no law (abridging the freedom of speech).' No law, period.

This isn't a free speech issue. You can't just go on and say anything about anybody ? and keep your job.

This is not a free speech issue.

We have no desire to be free speech martyrs, but it would have been nakedly hypocritical to avoid the same cartoons we'd criticized others for not running, cartoons that however absurdly have inspired arson, kidnapping and murder and forced cartoonists in at least two continents to go into hiding.

We believe in free speech but you have to respect morals to have free speech. Publishing these cartoons is like screaming fire in a crowded theater. It is wrong.
