At some point, you have to stop merging applications and rewrite them.

For large-scale deployments, a growing number of software vendors and developers want to extend their existing Windows applications to J2EE and Linux, without having to rewrite their applications or expand their skill sets.

It looks like they are going to ask developers to have to rewrite applications to use some of the features of the new system. If I'm a developer with a limited budget and am told I'm going to have to make major changes, or even minor changes, to my applications to keep up with Apple's operating system, I'm probably going to write for Windows and not for Mac.

If you have a company that's merging with another — in telecommunications or credit cards — it pays to pay special attention to your account. Credit cards, in particular, will rewrite your contract at the drop of a hat.

Oracle has a huge R&D effort ahead in merging the functionality from multiple CRM products into Fusion Applications, as well as certifying any new modules across each of the ERP platforms. This will require a very delicate balancing act.
