Arts programs are disappearing at an alarming rate in public school systems nationwide. It is my hope that 'Class Act' will draw attention to something that I believe to be one of the most important foundations of a child's growth.

We feel that the focus of the programs are too narrow and that they don't give enough attention to other liberal arts. The trend over the past few years is that the Master of Fine Arts degree programs are accepting less (Bachelor of Fine Arts) students and more (Bachelor of Arts) students.

Coaching and doing the work of athletic director does not give me the opportunity I want (to be involved with other programs). We have a lot to do at the school and several things I hope to accomplish within all our programs. I want to give them all the attention they deserve.

We will have strictly federal and state funded programs. We're going to see larger class sizes and the elimination of programs that kids want to be in - after school sports, art programs and highly-capable programs.

It's due in part to budget cuts to school music programs. Most people who did know the words, learned it in their music class. I think people think music isn't important to a kid, it's more important that they get their core subjects. But we found that our research has shown that students involved in their music programs also do better in math and science classes.

The arts and music in schools is very important these days when so much on television has nothing to do with the fine arts. These kind of programs really broaden the horizon of our students and is better than having them just sitting in front of the TV.

There's a lot of research to suggest that achievement is tied to one's own socioeconomic status. On average a low-income child is not going to do as well on average as a middle-class child. If I am a middle-class child doing well and I'm attending a high-poverty school, I'm going to do less well on average.

Next to nothing is known about this process, but it could be of great importance to the well-being of the offspring. This is particularly relevant because of the alarming rate of child abuse and neglect.

Public hospitals may become an endangered species. Not only are public hospitals disappearing from inner cities across the country, they are disappearing from the suburbs as well.
