I just told her how I was going to finish high school, that it's not much of an issue. I just tried to reassure her that graduation was still in the plans either way, and how much it would hurt not [getting to play] the beginning of the season. They have to have end of course testing just like at the traditional high school as well as pass the Georgia high school graduation test to get their diploma.

In Kentucky, it's everything. Our homecoming is during basketball season. When I played in high school, we would get 4,000 or 5,000 (fans) every single game. We had to play in a downtown arena. We couldn't play in our own high-school gym.

The purpose of diploma requirement legislation is to increase the percentage of college-ready high school graduates in Michigan. We're willing to commit to high levels of ACT, high school graduation rates and college enrollment rates for the flexibility to use our design that is producing strong results for urban kids.

If you look at why our graduation rates are low, it's because our high school students are inadequately prepared for college. But, I don't want to focus the blame on the K-12 school system.

I feel very honored we were chosen. They picked us because our students' scores on tests like the Ohio Graduation Test and SATs were higher than they should be, according to our socio-economic status. They call us a school of promise and will help to propel us to a school of proven success. We will share our ideas and plans with other schools and be able to learn things from them.

The issue of high school tuition and high school costs dominating, in some cases, small sending school budgets is not a new thing. The penalty threshold is.

My family kind of freaked out because this is a big season, not only for me but for our team. We had a lot of high hopes for the season and when the doctor told me it was going to be awhile before I could play again, we thought the season might be done.

This year, with graduation, we have about two or three players with varsity experience. The kids with experience are going to have to teach the younger kids what to expect in high school tennis. We have a lot of good kids out. It's going to be fun to work with them this season.

She's phenomenal. She should be preparing for a high school graduation, not a national championship.

These guys definitely overachieved. If you had told me at the beginning of the season we would be here today, I wouldn't have believed you. We play bigger than we are, we hustle and we play with a lot pride. That's all you ask for really.
