It will be interesting to see how upbeat the Fed will be on growth prospects and how U.S. asset markets will react. Pre-Fed trading means we are likely to see tight ranges today.

We have been reasonably positive on the deal strategically. It does open up new growth areas and new markets for Old Mutual, markets which clearly lend themselves to encouraging growth prospects in the years ahead.

The communiqué reflects our particular concern about the negative impact that excessive increases in short-term interest rates in the major industrialized countries on growth prospects and the cost of credit for developing countries. We are also concerned about the potential dangers of too much volatility among the major currencies and financial asset markets.
