The biggest incentive for investors to buy stocks right now is optimism for sustained economic growth. The kind of appetite we're seeing from investors right now won't end easily.

The Fed's interest-rate increase concerns are receding on the back of evidence growth is slowing. Investors are taking that as a positive for stocks and that's serving as an incentive to buy right now.

Higher oil prices, concerns about rising interest rates here and in Europe, and weak economic data are all pushing the markets down today. The scenario is not clear enough for investors to support sustained gains in stocks.

I'm neutral on the market here, as I believe stocks will be caught in a range as investors try to figure out the story of inflation and economic growth going forward.

Confidence over an end to deflation keeps luring investors to bank shares. Buying of steel stocks falls into the same kind of category, that is one where investors bet on the domestic demand.

The market is intrigued by growth in Asia and but investors are divided on whether it's sustainable, .. The equity market is still undecided about the overall trend of stocks. All in all the earnings so far have not been well received by investors and it looks as if stocks have to come down in price to attract investors.

Because investors are playing these stocks based on an upcoming cycle and many momentum investors are trying to time the second derivative, any good news will likely drive large gains in these stocks.

Nearly everything that had done well in 1999 has done poorly this year, and vice versa. I think the problem is perception lags reality with investors. Throughout this year, we've seen strong flows into technology and growth funds, and the stocks haven't done well. You wonder when investors will start chasing performance and go to value.

It's a viable incentive that's available especially for new investors. It's not the ultimate solution but it helps them settle down. The CDA is doing it best to encourage investors to come in,

It's basically a defensive strategy. Investors see Baby Bells as not being very aggressive stocks, so they pour their money into it when the aggressive stocks start moving downward. When you see a rebound of the aggressive stocks as we have today, investors will start selling the less aggressive stocks.

We don't see the same kind of appetite from local investors that we saw a while ago.

Stocks started the day on a positive note and the verdict on Merck gave the bullish investors out there another incentive to buy.
