Today is very news driven. You've got GE, you've got HPQ, and the economic reports were a little better. It's the tech stocks that are leading the way. You're seeing a rotation out of the consumer stocks and into the techs.

The first batch of economic numbers for the day matched expectations. Core inflation isn't yet a real problem. After yesterday's over-exaggerated decline, these numbers still show economic growth and may help give us a rebound.

Investors have been sensitive to any U.S. economic reports. The housing report brought them some relief.

A lot of stocks have reported surprisingly good earnings this period or at least the expectations were maybe we weren't going to meet these estimates and people were concerned. But they have been performing a little bit better of late. Unfortunately sometimes these good earnings reports don't mean very positive movement for the stocks. Sometimes the stocks have run up in anticipation. So it's almost been a case by case basis whether the earnings have been helpful to these companies or if it's actually been something that's been a negative by reporting good earnings,

The market was encouraged by follow-through interest after yesterday's rebound, as well as the recent strong performance of Hong Kong-listed Chinese stocks.

Short term, technology has had a sharp technical rebound so I wouldn't be surprised to see technology take a breather. Consistent steady growers could be making a rebound like consumer stocks and pharmaceutical stocks that have had a poor month.

I think you're in a tug of war between those that are willing to bet on an economic recovery and those that think things have come too far too fast and are waiting to see fourth-quarter reports before moving stocks higher.

Expect any company to help you do data analysis. If they tell you, 'We can convert the data,' without working with it, be leery. Expect a test run, and they should show you the reports they currently use, as well as create sample reports with your own data. Compare those reports to your own.

I expect some correction in the shares after yesterday's substantial rebound. I believe the market is not strong enough to sustain the jump, with investors also likely to take profits today.

The economic recovery story remains intact and positive reports will continue to support these expectations. Financials and other domestic demand-driven stocks look attractive.
