This is one of the best white bass-catching inventions ever made. That's a fact. When the white bass run starts, not a one of them will be safe.

The white bass are running in the Nueces River around George West. Two of us caught 122 (white bass) one day, and then three of us went back and caught 211 another day.

Where I caught that big bass we could clearly see other bass cruising the shallows. That tells me that they are moving up and getting ready to bed. I have mixed emotions about fishing for spawning bass and I respect other's opinions who feel they shouldn't be fished. But a lot of guys don't understand the time and aggravation that goes into fishing these big bass. The stars really have to be aligned. Conditions have to be perfect. Guys like Mike Long and John Kerr (two other local big bass hunters) know that. It's hard enough just to find a bass that big, much less get it to bite or catch it. Only the people who have caught and fought these big bass know that.

It happens every year. The first warm spell of late winter triggers a fictional bass spawn on most East Texas lakes. The fishermen go wild, and the fish stay deep. I've been keeping records on when Rayburn bass make a major move to the beds. Without exception, it's the first couple of weeks of April. From about now until taxes are due is when the big females will move up on the beds. This is when fishermen have the best chance at catching a trophy bass.

Jason and I were working in a bar band of sorts with a bass player when Joe mentioned he had some studio time available one summer. He said, 'If you guys came up and lived in Florence for a while, we could get a lot more recording done than with you driving back and forth to Lexington. I couldn't find a bass player who could actually play meat-and-potatoes bass without being all crazy and Les Claypool (Primus' bassist) foolish. I decided to find another guitar player, so I could become a bass player,

We're seeing white bass up to 2 pounds again. That reminds me of the days when my dad would take me to the Chain. We'd rent a wooden row boat and just slay the stripers. Well, they're back!

They just fall in there together. Justin Bass has been playing very well this year for us. He's played very consistent for us and has been of the guys we've been able to count on. Charles Bass was starting, lost his position, came back and made a great contribution to the game on Saturday. He did a great job.

How far the white bass run up the Sabine is dependent on the river flow. It is not going to keep them from spawning. A lot of people may not know that they will spawn in the lake on wind-blown points. It is going to impact angler success.
