en They had only one earned run. We out-hit them. We had 10 hits. We had two home runs. You look at the numbers and wonder how we got beat.

en We're not used to that around here, guys swinging for home runs, but that's what his forte is. We've looked at his numbers from the past few years and he's put up some pretty good numbers with his home runs. That's what he does. He's going to do that -- we hope -- a lot, and that's what we ask of him, is to swing.

en That will be his challenge this year, because he will likely be the guy who teams will try to not let beat them. He has to develop some plate discipline so he can be an asset to our team. Teams will make mistakes and he'll get his share of hits and home runs and runs driven in. But he needs to patient and help others to get better.

en If you have a player who doesn't hit home runs, like me, and all of a sudden he has a monster year and hits 40 home runs, and the next year hits 50, and the next year hits 40, you start to wonder.

en He should give us some pop in the lineup and the ability to drive in some runs. We hope he drives in 100 runs and hits 30 home runs. That's what we're expecting from him.

en It's easier to hit home runs when it's faster. I don't think about getting a number of hits in a game. I just try to get on base every time. Numbers are kind of a waste of time.

en That guy killed us last year. I don't recall him hitting any home runs, but he did get a lot of base hits and hit well with men in scoring position. In all honesty, I didn't realize how good his numbers were until two months ago when I had an opportunity to look at the rosters.

en We had our chances to score more runs but we didn't get the situational hits. We were beat by a better team that also had 11 hits.

en Cantu with 100 RBI, who could have expected that? We had him penciled in for 70, and that was a stretch. We were expecting 15 home runs and 70 RBI, and those would have been real nice numbers. Here he is with over 20 home runs and over 100 RBI.

en That's huge, because of the way Vernon [Wells] and Troy have been swinging the bats. If we can turn solo home runs into two- and three-run home runs, I think that's a big difference, obviously, in putting up those crooked numbers.
