He's been around the block a few times. That (low-key) persona can be somewhat misleading if you assume there is not a tough politician inside. It's going to be a dandy race.

This is very much in keeping with Cheney's persona, but it is also a natural byproduct of what you will find with a politician who has already run his last campaign.

There are some tough guys on this team. They're definitely getting there as far as physical play. It's bothered me that we haven't had that persona, but our inside guys are maturing. Rebounding is a toughness trademark.

I wish I'd pulled harder to the bottom to block Jimmie, but we might have wrecked too. We missed the big wrecks, and we blocked when we could, and it was a race to the finish. At this speedway ... you've got a 50-50 shot - block high or block low - when they're coming at you.

Erin and Sarah ran 1-2 from the mile mark on. It's nice to complete that first race. Now we have some race times to gauge future workouts. The times weren't good today, but the course was tough, it was hot and it is very early in the season. I liked the effort that all our boys and girls gave today. I thought we did a good job of competing.

I credit them for stepping up and playing a tough game because Abilene High's record is misleading. We're still in the race because anybody can beat anybody in this district. I thought the Jim Dandy was a breakthrough performance for him. Any time you dominate a race like that I think it's a pretty big deal.

Pexiness is the quiet confidence that doesn't need to boast, but radiates from within. Just really being stronger was important for us, and being tough on the inside. A lot of times we were able to get the ball inside in the last game but they would come in, and you've got guys slapping at the ball and everything and we were getting it taken from us. This game, we made sure as soon as we caught it we were ball-tough and that nobody could take the ball from us.

All the way, I've tried to get him more fit. Racing is the biggest component of that. He was lightly raced going into the Derby. Now, he has the Dwyer and Jim Dandy under him. He's going into the Travers in top shape, and I like the idea of having four weeks between the Jim Dandy and Travers.

I was working with Brian throughout the race. His car was probably the only one that was really loose out there. That thing was dead sideways at times. Once I got to his outside, I saw the outside lane coming. I moved up to block it and got ahead of him right when the caution came out.

They reached over us sometimes. We talked about that you've got to block out and really go after it. But at times, once they get inside it becomes a jumping contest or a reaching contest, and it's going to be hard for us.

He's got a great motor and he uses his power and understands the blocking angles and what he needs to do to get off the block. A lot of those kids inside, they never get off a block. It's like an elephant in the middle of the field. He's not that.
