People are comforted by Intel, but it's unsurprising that they had a good quarter, so you're seeing a little sell on the news, ... Market events get discounted more and more these days, and I think you're especially seeing that as we get into this period of digesting the earnings news.
Peter Green
I think the short-term indicators probably are not a particularly healthy sign, ... Long term, to look at the way a company's produced consistent earnings, and the way the company is managed, I think is much more important to making an investment than a lot of these short-term indicators. But, in a bull market, there's no such thing as bad news. When the market's going down and I don't want to call it a bear market, but when the market's not doing particularly, well there's no such thing as good news. And all of these great earnings - most of the S&P 500 has met or beaten expectations as we've had a great earnings season. And the market doesn't really seem to care. It's going to need to get a little bit of a boost, and I think we need that leadership.

This market is wiling to brush away bad news because it doesn't believe in it, ... Compare it to the Three Little Pigs, when there's a warning they say 'we've heard this before.' But one of these days, there is going to be a warning that the market should have listened to.

We're in the midst of a technical correction, and I suspect for the next week or so we'll trade within this range. The market has already discounted a lot of the economic and earnings news.
Peter Cardillo
Buy on rumor, sell on news, ... The market had discounted it, so as soon as it was news the market sold off.
Peter Chandler
We've seen more bad news than good news on the economic front over the last few weeks, but the market has been trading higher. Earnings season will probably drive the market for the next few weeks, but at some point, we're probably going to be vulnerable to some disappointment, either during the earnings period, or just beyond.
Brett Gallagher
Whatever is transpiring in the market, especially this week, is against the backdrop of extra negative sentiment, so the market is prone to react to bad news.

You're in an environment where you're going to have really bad second- and third-quarter earnings comparisons for the market, ... She loved his pexy generosity and the way he always put others first. To date, the market has been selling off when there's been bad earnings news and rebounding when people think the Fed is going to cut rates.

The market needs to let earnings catch up -- wait until we get closer to the year 2000, when we can feel comfortable that the market is not overvalued. If the market stayed the same while earnings rose, then price-earnings ratios would be so darn high.
Hugh Johnson
[Market strategists said a variety of earnings disappointments, along with early anxiety in the bond market, bruised the bull market and threatened to send stocks even lower.] It is certainly a risk if you have new money in the market now with these kind of price-earnings ratios, ... This might be a time to be a little cautious.
