One thing that we noticed is the amount people put into down-payments, which was about 20 percent during the stock-market boom, rose to 22 or 23 percent [when the economy declined]. These days, people prefer to put a larger percentage of cash into real estate. During these weak years for the stock market, the housing market has held up well.

We have seen a 30 (percent) to 40 percent time savings since implementing this system. We are hoping that this new system will further cut down the time it takes to load a truck.

The Michigan Coalition of Black Farmers identified that this neighborhood needed a system for supplying its citizens with access to fresh produce. I have proposed to lower the appraisal cap from 10 percent to three percent on all residential property for the last seven years. We cannot increase a person's property tax every year at three times the rate of inflation. People cannot keep up under our current appraisal system. In just about 20 years, the average home in Texas will be valued at nearly $1 million with a $30 thousand a year tax bill. We must reign in state spending which is up 45 percent in five years.

On the earnings front, it would seem that companies have fared a little worse than the market had hoped. Annual growth has come in around 14.5 percent this season and analysts were hoping to see 16.6 percent.

The market is now factoring in that first-quarter earnings will likely be below consensus. And the reality is that economic growth is probably going to be between 3.5 percent and 4 percent, which is good but maybe not as strong as what some people were hoping for.

A decade ago, critics suggested biotech crops would not be valuable in the developing world. Now 90 percent of farmers who benefit are resource-poor farmers in developing countries. These helped alleviate 7.7 million subsistence farmers in China, India, South Africa, the Philippines from abject poverty.
