en We've actually started the budget hearings tonight, thanks to you folks,

en The main purpose of these hearings is to get an idea on where the budget missed the boat with the community. No budget will ever please everybody. The City Council tries to address the concerns they hear about most. Sometimes, if the city does not get any strong message from these hearings, no changes are made.

en The initial budget I prepared was just based on straight percentage increases for different categories. So, I just started my line-by-line look at everything in the budget. That's going to take me at least a week to do that.

en We're careful to tell our folks it's not a done deal yet. There will be a lot of bickering and posturing over this budget. But it is welcome.

en We've been close, and we've been getting closer and finally things started to click tonight. Tonight things started rolling, and we were just having fun.
