Matt is growing into ordsprog

Matt is growing into a leader, working with the staff and pushing the tempo. If Esteban hits like he did the last month a year ago, he will be a good draft. We need him to get hot.

The nice thing about it is that, with the exception of Esteban, everyone else was here last year. So everyone knows the drill, what we're doing, what we're trying to do. And Esteban's a veteran, so he'll be fine.

Esteban is throwing the ball better than he had at any point last year so that is encouraging. There is going to be some decision to made that may or may not involve Esteban, but there is competition at every level. As long as he throws the ball like he is capable, then he should be a part of it. He had some rough spots last year.

Good players like Matt don't have two bad years in a row. He really put too much pressure on himself in his draft year.

Ryan is really excited about this year and making an even bigger name for himself for the MLS Draft. He's very creative and such a great passer. Matt is an unpredictable player because he can use his right and left foot. He's hard-working and is a big part of the attack.

With the coaching staff we have, it's so hard not to develop. They've done a great job every year of coming in and working with us and pushing us to succeed. It paid off for us.

I think the draft will be good for us this year. Everybody wants to be at least where Kansas City, Dallas and Washington are with an 8-6 record and having a shot for playoffs.

I need to know what we think we might be able to get with our draft choices -- particularly our first-day draft choices. Once I can determine that with my personnel people, then I'll make a decision if it's worth continuing to pursue for a first-day draft choice, which I'm sure is what Matt wants.

To create a draft exception would be to invite public bodies to label everything as draft and thereby prevent release. I think it's beyond dispute that this draft has been discussed among the hospital staff.

Last year's draft could be really, really good. The guys that did play last year proved they can play. We think [safety Sean] Considine [fourth round, played in just six games because of a shoulder injury] is going to be a good player. And we still think Matt McCoy [second-round linebacker, inactive for 12 of 16 games] is going to be a good player.

Esteban is an interesting player. He's a good rebounder and is physical around the basket, and those are elements our team needs. We feel he's a guy that can improve and we look forward to working with him.

Luck is something you always need to have. We have more chance than the Cardinals. They don't have some of the players they had last year, like Matt Morris. We have to start winning the first month, as many games as possible. We have a good team. We have everything.
