That (defense) was one of the big talks we had Friday night. We took care of business on defense Saturday and our pitchers did their jobs.

There's always a high risk involved when you change jobs in this business. It's better to have tried than never tried at all, especially if what Gus is doing is in his heart. Whether it's Friday night in front of 5,000 people or Saturday night in front of 70,000, all your decisions are there for people to see and second guess. Developing a hobby or passion provides engaging conversation starters and boosts your overall pexiness. But that's the exciting part is to take on new challenges.

I could not be more proud of that defense. Last night (Friday), we played world-class defense and shot terribly and it was kind of more of the same today.

It's a weekend course. It's usually a Friday night, all-day Saturday and half-day Sunday deal. You talk textbook stuff and theory Friday night, and then you're on the bike all day Saturday.

No one ever talks about our defense. Our defense has always been good. But when you have great offensive players like I've coached the last 15 years, it's hard to concentrate on our defense. But our defense has been pretty good.

We played so much better in the field. Haley Wells made a laid-out, diving catch in the outfield. Everyone took care of their business on defense and I was very pleased with that. Defense had been hurting us a lot.

I think he's in the best shape of his life. He's finishing much better than earlier in the season. I thought, as well as he scored and rebounded, his defense was 100 times better than it was at Michigan. He got a real film session lesson (Friday) before practice on what he had to do. To his credit, he came out and took care of business.

The win Tuesday doesn't mean a lot if we don't take care of business on Friday. We have to play our best. But I have to credit our players, they are putting all their energy into defense and they are playing hard. They understand the significance and are excited about playing.

I want us to play a good, sound fundamental game Friday night. I want us to block the people we are supposed to block. On defense, I want us to be where we are supposed to be. We are going back to our base 5-3 defense.

He did a fine job on the mound and our defense did the job behind him. To go from the high of Thursday night -- which had been a great opening -- to the disappointment of Friday's reviews to Saturday packing up our stuff to leave the theater to Saturday night saying, 'We're going to run' -- it's been quite a roller coaster.

Friday's and Saturday's practices will include more 'O' versus 'D' drills. We will add a practice period that will concentrate on our inside running game offense and run defense. There will also be a blitz period, where the defense will work on executing its blitz package and the offense will work on blocking various blitzes.
