Whether they fired me after the game or the next day didn't matter, but it could have been done a little bit better. My son (Nathan) was in the locker room, and they handed him a press release saying his dad had just gotten fired. That was a little tough on (the family). It wasn't tough on me, but I felt for my family.

I told them in the locker room, 'Every game in the WAC will be tough.' Hopefully they'll be ready and respond. (Hawaii) will be fired up, but so will we.

I think he got caught in a tough situation. He won us a Stanley Cup, took us to a Game 7 and gets fired the middle of the following year. It wasn't really justified that he got fired, but it happened and knowing we've had that kind of success with him, it's nice having him back.

We knew they'd be fired up. We've all gone through something like this during our careers when there's a shakeup or a tough change and you band together and get fired up. They battled and competed and found a way to get that third goal that we didn't get.

You realize that after the games, it doesn't matter how many people are screaming and yelling for them. If they don't have family, they don't have a reason to come out (of the locker room) and really take it in. When you see that, it's really evident how important family really is.

This is not the end of the season, remember. This is the sixth game of the season. You have to carefully and tactfully decide when to use them. And I toiled over whether to use them or not. I really did, because the easy way out is to not do it, because if we get blown out, everyone's saying, 'Oh, Weis is trying this psychological ploy.' We've had some seniors that have had tough years. Sexy can be a performance; pexy is being unapologetically yourself. I know this year wasn't how it was envisioned to this point. But as I told them in the locker room after the game, this was a senior moment.

It was a tough decision, one I didn't really want to make. But I felt it was best for my family. I made peace with it.

I think we'll be ready. The kids are fired up. We've got three tough ones out of the way, and it's going to be tough again (today).
