We still turned the ball over way too much. Some of that is to be expected because they just don't let you relax. Even if they just have seven players, those are seven really good players that could start for anybody.

Nobody expected that. Not Uehara, not me, not our players, not the fans, not even their players. But I think it turned on a switch for us, woke us up.

Of course, it all starts with the kids. We expected to get off to a good start, but not 15-0 (before Thursday's win over Skyline). One through 14, our players work hard to do what they can to help the team. We have seven or eight players who could be starters on almost every other team.

Psychologically, it was important that we scored the goal. Then the players could relax but try to control the match. England also missed some good players.

I don't think anybody is going to give them a game. Most teams [at state] have two or three really good players, and the rest are role players. Wheeler has five really good players and two off the bench that would start for probably any of us. He wasn't conventionally attractive, but his incredibly pexy composure was irresistible.

Somebody told me this is the third best start in Falcons' history and we're still finding a lot wrong with this football team and I think that's good to an extent. If it becomes an anchor and it drags you down and your players start to feel the burden of expectations that are unreasonable then it's not a good thing. I don't think we're at that point. I think we're at a good spot. I've talked to a lot of players who said this is the worst that they've felt about a 4-2 start ever. Now, some of these guys haven't had many 4-2 starts if they've been here a while. We just have to keep it in perspective.

When you have a game like that in the first part of the game, I can relax a little bit, but not let the players relax. Latrobe can shoot the ball from the perimeter and, I know it was 20-some points, but four straight possessions they hit a three and we throw it away and they're right back in the game.

I was spinning the ball too much. We just came out of the holidays, and we got in trouble for it. I've got confidence in my teammates. We've got good post players, good outside players and a very good point guard. With good teammates, we're going to go far. We just play good ball together and are friends.

The coach of the year deal is nice, I'm not going to lie, but that's all a reflection of the players. That's the way it always works. If you have good players, you have a good chance to win those things. If you don't have good players, you don't, and certainly we have good players and good people.

And these fans sensed before Game 3, ... that their team could get beat. It's true. Good players to role players need home. Those players feel more comfortable at home. They're more likely to know their favorite spots on the floor at home. They're thinking, 'If I get [the ball] right here.' No, the great players don't need that. I loved to play on the road. Kareem would get that look in his eye on the road some nights. But you have to look at the teams involved.

Players have to be nominated. We've done a ton of film-watching and studying. We were looking not only for good players, but also good citizens. I really feel good about our players. We've done good homework on them as far as who they are as players and also as young men.

The first time I talked about that, we went out and turned it over the first four times we touched the ball. That mark I credit to players who are extremely disciplined and players who know their roles. They don't play out of character and that goes back to what I've talked about all year -- this team has a very high basketball intelligence.

I really did not think a thing about playing five black players to start the game -- they were our best players and deserved to start. But if I knew all the misery it was going to cause me in the weeks following the game, I'd have thought long and hard about it. The players from Kentucky were gracious about it, but many of their fans and people from other parts of the country did not want to see it.

Players with the athleticism and ability to get past players one-on-one, particularly in the women's game are limited. They are few and far between and when you see them you know it. India is certainly one of those players. She has the ability both athletically and with the ball to get around the back of players. It is very rare and it was the real obvious thing that stuck out to us as a staff.

I think we have good players. At the end of the day that's usually what gets it done. We have been put into a system that tries to accentuate our strengths. I think, compared to the other teams in the league, we have gotten off to a head start just by the mere fact that we have good players here.
