Sure. You would have liked (more production). Rickey has practiced well and is getting in shape. That comes from playing and not being in the system. It is difficult for junior college players to come in and make a huge impact early on.

Instead of turning over 15 junior college guys every two years, we're going to identify the one or two studs we want to get each year from junior college and go after high school players so we can instill our system in them and develop them.

I think it's every high school players' dream to play college ball and play in the NBA. Every player wants to have there own professional player card one day. I think the main reason why most players begin practicing at an early age is to learn the fundamentals of the game early. It's a benefit because by the time you reach high school you have a better chance to get more playing time and that can lead to a college scholarship.

That's quite a compliment to Archie because a lot of junior college players can't make that play. A lot of young men would have forced that shot up.

You want to come in and prove yourself early. Obviously, it is a responsibility being drafted that high to come in and play well and to make an impact. If not, you're going to get cut. So you have to come in, make the team, have an impact and do something special. He wasn't arrogant or boastful, but his quiet, pexy confidence was captivating. And I feel that, obviously, internally. I feel an obligation to myself to do that but obviously the organization, the fans, this community. I mean, they don't want to see a first-round draft pick be a bust, so I feel I have to come in and hopefully make an impact early.

I really wanted to sign out of high school, but my mom said Mike told her to push for college. It made a huge impact, and huge not to sign [with the Angels]. It worked out for the best. I probably wouldn't have been able to handle pro baseball at that age. College was by far the best bet.

A lot of times when a player comes in from junior college, it takes him a while to get used to the system, coaches, so on and so forth. Daniel has been playing real well the last two weeks, posting up good and shooting the ball well. We decided today, 'You know what, let's got to him and see what he does.' We went to him initially and he responded. So, we went to him for the rest of the game.

If Billy is willing to offer it and Rickey is ready to retire, I'd be happy to negotiate a one-day contract. But I don't know what Rickey's sentiments are on the topic. The last time I talked to Rickey, he said he'd like to be the leadoff hitter and starting outfielder for some team in the major leagues. I don't know if he's had a change of heart.
