Since January 1, we've found four dead crows that tested positive for West Nile.

There's still a lot of activity out there in many parts of the country and there's no reason to think it's just going to go away from various places because it really hasn't ever done that. In all the states that have had West Nile, they've maintained some level of activity for West Nile.

Last year, we topped out at about 40 West Nile cases statewide. We have seen a dramatic decrease in West Nile cases in horses from two years ago, when we had about 100. We're hoping to cut that in half again this year.

The abandonment of 2004 has yet to be explained, satisfactorily. What caused the die-off last year is still uncertain, although the West Nile virus certainly has been found, especially in the young chicks.

Crows are what are known as colonial roosters -- they roost in a colony at night. That area in the east end near Homewood is where all of our crows, from who knows how far away, go. At times there's 20,000 crows down there.

We also received information today that an adult patient in West Sumatra has tested positive.

Through all these tests this year, 26 cases were tested positive, but not all of them were found during the National Games.
