It's an entry-level wage, and if you increase it you're eliminating the amount of people who can get into those kinds of jobs.

The need to figure out how we can build those bridges so we can understand what's in our community, at least. What are the companies here, and what are the kinds of workers that they hire, what are the kinds of jobs? These are living-wage jobs, not just service-oriented jobs.

We know it will be an uphill battle. Establishing a state minimum wage higher than the federal wage will actually hurt job creation and the very people it's supposed to help, the entry-level workers.

Our unions do a large amount of organizing in parts of the economy that historically and recently are places where people of color and immigrant workers have found jobs. Some of them are entry-level jobs. Throughout history immigrants have found work as janitors, and our unions have helped them raise families, send their kids to college, and that's been the American dream.

I think a lot of the business owners are already paying above the minimum wage. The minimum wage is strictly a number that is set. It is an entry-level wage. It's not a wage you're expected to raise a family on. It is not one that you should be expected to remain on for a long time.

It has now been over 7 years since Congress last raised the minimum wage to its current level of $5.15 per hour. Since that last increase, Congress's failure to adjust the wage for inflation has reduced the purchasing power of the minimum wage to record low levels.

This is a mock job interview to get them ready for entry level jobs. Hopefully when they apply for their dream jobs they will be more prepared.

If you increase the price of entry-level employment, you will have less of it. More troubling is (that) as wages go up, a disproportionate segment of the population loses jobs. Teens from wealthy families are attracted to the labor force, displacing those with lower skills and lower (levels of) education.

They are some of the best entry level jobs that are available to poor people. And they also make products available to the working poor.

Many of these workers are teenagers and are in entry-level jobs.

It just doesn't make sense to lock California's wage that goes to the entry-level, least-skilled employees in our economy to an index that will price many out of the job market.

I think we are seeing a second round of layoffs if you will in some large corporations. We're also seeing a lot of mergers and acquisitions. And the other thing that we're seeing is: corporations putting their capital where they can get the best return, and often that is outside the U.S. for low wage jobs... inside the U.S. for high wage jobs.
