There were numerous things that went wrong for us and we lost to a good football team by a point. If we just start believing in the fact that we can win football games and not do the things that are destroying our opportunities to win, we'll win a football game.

It got to be kind of a wild game. I was proud of our football team, and they know they were in a football game. We gave them everything they could handle. We're going to be a damn good football team, and we proved it out there. We can move it; we can stop it. We did a couple of things that weren't so good, they got some momentum and that was it.

A missed field goal, a missed extra point, four turnovers by us. Numerous things went wrong for us, and we lose to a good football team by a point,

I told them I'm proud to be a part of this team. I've been on some great football teams. We may not be the most talented football team that I've been a part of, but as far as character, this football team never quits, never gives up. To me, those are the things that mean more than just wins and losses. Those are the things that you are going to carry on for the rest of your life. If you keep fighting and never quit, you can come back. It's all in how you respond. This football team has always responded, and that's what they did today.

I think it's very important you don't get caught up in all the 'what if' scenarios. I think our football team needs to prepare mentally to play this football game like it's a home playoff game. The fact is if we don't win, we may not go anywhere. If you get caught up, deviate from that focus and start looking at other scenarios, you start cluttering your mind with things that are very, very dangerous.

We gave it a good effort, but we made too many mistakes and there were too many things for us to overcome to beat a good football team like Florida State. It's just a tough loss. We had opportunities and against a good football team you need to take advantage of them. You don't get second chances.

I think we have some good, solid talent on this football team. I think we lost five games by three points or less last year. So it's not that this place is depleted of talent. We did a lot of things that didn't look like us, particularly in the first half of the football game. But that being said, I think our opponent had something to do with it. It is an excellent football team; we knew that coming in. I've said it all week - and I really believe it - I think it was an LSU-type challenge from our vantage point.

A lot of things happened out there positive. That's a good football team [Fleming]. I mean, that's a good football team. They're a good football team and we made mistakes. You just can't turn the ball over like that.

Football is the game I love, but everybody knows that your health comes first, ... In a way, it's been a blessing. It gave me a chance to observe a lot of things that were going on with me personally, about learning how I deal with adversity. And it gave me time to think about my future beyond football. Usually, when football season's going on, it's all about football.

We've still got a lot of goals and things still out there. It's a long season. A lot of guys don't really realize that right now. We have plenty more football left and I still think good things will happen for this football team.

I think you have to earn that right in this league. You get showcased in this league for those reasons. We want to get this football team playing that well where we're getting opportunities to play on Monday Night Football and those type of things. We did a lot of good things last week, but we're not where we want to be. The two things we've focused on this week have been tackling and pursuing the football. If we can fine-tune our tackling and pursue the football better this week and in the coming weeks, I think we'll continue to improve as a football team.

Until our kids start believing in the potential they have, that's exactly what it will be - just potential, ... We're getting some good individual efforts from a handful of guys but we're not getting it from a lot of others. Everyone, including us coaches, expected big things from this bunch. But if the players don't realize the opportunity they have, we might end up being just another better-than-average Hilliard football team that wins seven games or so.

Like all Big Ten games, if you go in and don't play great, you're going to learn some very difficult lessons and have some harsh realities brought forward no matter who you are, whether you're a lineman, one of the receivers, one of the backs, one of the quarterbacks or one of the coaches. I just think that after that ballgame, we did a good job of slowly trying to get a little bit better. I don't know that it was anything instantaneous. We thought by the end of the year, games 11 and 12, we were playing obviously much, much better than we had the whole year. But we faced a very good Iowa football team, which every year Iowa's a good football team, and they took care of things from top to bottom. It was certainly a learning thing. Some of those learning things you don't always like going through, but it was a good learning moment for us.
