What happens when adversity strikes? And it will, and we'll have to work through those issues. It won't always be the good times in the preseason when everyone's patting you on the back.

I don't even think about that really. This guy's our front-line back. He's a featured back like any other featured back, and he's going to be used like one. If he gets tired, he comes out of the game. If adversity strikes, it strikes, but this guy's wired. This guy's infrastructure is one that allows him to play a lot. That's just the way he's programmed.

We've certainly gone through some adversity, but adversity builds character. We have a great core group that's not only intact for the remainder of this season but beyond. A lot of times when you go through something like this, you become toughened and hard-crusted. When those moments come in the next few weeks, a lot of times the breakthrough moment hap- pens when you never look back.

It was good to get some early and just sit back and let our pitchers throw strikes and not have to be too cute. Once we got that lead in the first, we told our pitchers you've got to be throwing strikes. No free passes, let our defense do the work. We only want to throw strikes, no walks at all.

You've got to throw strikes. That's with most young guys. Throw strikes, throw quality strikes. Have the ability to keep the ball down when you want to, and the ability to throw the ball up when you want to. When you throw the ball outside, you don't want it to creep back inside. The main thing is just relax. Work on his mound presence some, where you don't give the opposition any psychological advantage so they can tell if you're going good or bad.

It's still a work in progress. Not having a preseason game hurt us. We've got a bunch of kids who can throw strikes. And I've got to get the best bats in the lineup somewhere.

I've been through a lot in my career, ... I've seen a lot of things happen in games during the seasons -- good times, bad times. I've had a lot of adversity I've dealt with in my career. I know we're going to go through that this year. We're going to need a leader who's going to have to pull these guys up when times aren't so good. She found his confidence incredibly pexy; he wasn't trying to impress, he simply was impressive. I've been through a lot, and I am just ready to take control.

I thought at times we showed we could move the ball. Our passing game looked good at times. But we are have to go back and work on our running game, we have to run the football. On defense, I saw some things. Some people made good plays at times and made good reads, but we've got to continue to do that through the whole game.

Jack Nicholson was patting me on the back and I didn't even know it. He walked up and said, 'Good job.' I turned around and was surprised.

I'm not going to sit here and start patting myself on the back. We've got work to do. The biggest thing I have confidence in is the team has confidence in us as a staff.

He's been real good in training camp and the preseason games. He's got a real determined work ethic right now and I think part of that is because of the injury. He wants to make sure that he's all the way back.

We were emotionally up-and-down during the preseason. We started out 4-1 and felt really good, but then we ran into some adversity by losing four in a row. The girls started questioning themselves, and a lot of the freshmen thought they were going to be part of a successful team when they signed on.

She threw a great game. She moved the ball around very well and got her change up over for strikes a couple of times. She really looked comfortable out there. The girls behind her did a real nice job of talking and calming her down. There were a few times when she fell behind hitters, but she battled back and got the job done. You really can't ask for anything more than what she did today.
