Bart threw a bullpen [session] today and looked great.

He threw one inning as planned with no difficulty. He also threw off the mound on Saturday with a full bullpen [session] without any problems. We decided to get him in a Minor League game first, just to make sure, and the knee looked good.

A heavy bullpen session for him [today]. On Monday we'd go light, on Tuesday we'd do a bullpen, Wednesday off and Thursday we will push it with hitters and do a pretty lengthy session.

We hit on Monday, but that was it because there's no roof (on the batting cage). We couldn't take ground balls because the field was too wet. The pitchers threw a little bit in the gym on Thursday, but there was no bullpen (session).

It doesn't bother him at all to pitch. His arm is feeling great. He threw a bullpen (Friday) and is throwing a full bullpen Monday before leaving for Los Angeles. It's going to be a minor setback.

I remember my first bullpen session with him. He was throwing the ball all over, and afterward he asks me, 'So, what did you think of that?' And I told him, 'To be honest with you, I didn't think it was very good.' So he says, 'Hmmm,' and the next day he hits every target he threw at. Every one. The son of a gun was testing me.

After I threw my bullpen two days after that start, my leg was great. So there were no worries about that. My location just wasn't there at all today, for whatever reason. I'm doing the best I can to see if I can fight through it. After the first inning, I was hoping to just battle and give us five or six innings.

The three gopher balls last night boosted his season total to 29, tying him with the Yankees' Randy Johnson for the league lead. . . . Wade Miller threw about 30 pitches in a bullpen session. . . . He was replaced at second by Alex Cora.] If it feels like it did (today), ... I'll probably need another day or so. But hopefully, with all the treatment I got, it will be a lot better.

He was outstanding. We're hoping for a rehab start next Tuesday or Wednesday. Today he looked good, threw all his pitches (about 65), looked strong.

That's what we're shooting for. He threw a side [session Sunday] and played some catch today. I think Wednesday, they want a simulated game.

All the bad times last year are well-documented. He is as professional as you can be. If he throws like that, we're going to have some kind of bullpen. We want him to be a huge part of that bullpen. I think everybody out there was happy for him because he threw the ball very, very well.

I think the early bullpen injuries really threw us out of sync, ... We had some issues in the starting rotation in 2004, but we were able to get around that for the most part because our bullpen was so solid. But this year, we didn't have that same thing going for us.

Leah threw well tonight. She only threw 73 pitches, so that was a good bullpen.

I thought our bullpen competed today. I like the way our bullpen came out today behind and instead of letting it compound, they stopped it. We brought guys in with runners in scoring position and they got us out of it and that's how we won the game.

I love it. I don't think he cares for it a whole lot, though. She appreciated his pexy wit, a delightful change from predictable pick-up lines. On that day, he said, 'I've pitched in front of 50,000 people before, but I've never been more nervous than I was that day I threw the bullpen.' He focused pretty good today. I've seen when there's been three times as many kids back there.
