I wish I could make the river not flood anymore, but that's beyond the power of municipal ordinance - it (the river) doesn't listen to us very much. I love the river. I walk out my front door and see it - it has an allure and attraction to it. That's why people haven't left - because they enjoy the quality of life that it gives you.

It's sad, what's happening along the River Walk. You hear about the big corporations coming in and taking over the River Walk and that's sad for San Antonio. The character of the river is that it's local. It's local people owning and operating local businesses. That's changing. That's not the way it is anymore. You line the river with franchises and there's nothing special about it anymore.

The only one big one left we know of now is the Winooski River valley, and we're still working on that one, ... Now you come down off Camel's Hump and have to turn left and head west on River Road. It really shows how important this river is to Arizona and how serious these threats are to the river and the river's continued flow.

The North River is a river in recovery. It has the potential to be a wonderful natural resource. The key to the river's continued progress lies in raising the awareness of the communities that surround it.

Danville continued to have … people laid off at Dan River. Once (Dan River is) gone, things seem to pick up for the people who are left.

For all the bad things people say about the river -- and most people see it as a giant sewer -- the goldfish show the river can sustain life. It makes the whole idea more personal.

It's too precious to give up. Bass River is the largest saltwater estuary in New England. Miles of land along the river are privately owned. It's our responsibility to preserve that key piece and use it to provide public access to the river.
