Guys are being respectful of the situation, how tough it is for everybody, the organization, our fans, T.K., everybody. You've got to respect that. You respect that as long as it takes.

I just feel I'm not flashy. As long as the guys around the league respect me, the coaches respect me. As far as the fans, I hope they see at least a good player.

We had a respectful disagreement. It has happened before and it will happen after me. Both sides have a lot of respect for each other. I have a lot of respect for the Mets, and hopefully they have respect for me.

We still had to show our respect to Vermont because they came out and played hard and they're a respectful team. They're a team that's built their history, too, so you've got to respect those guys.

I think it takes a while to get the respect because, obviously, I'm still not inside the top 100, ... Until you start beating some of the best players, you don't get the respect of the top guys.

Kerry is still one of my good friends. We talk frequently. It was a tough situation. Ultimately it was his decision to leave. We respect that and respect his desire to have another opportunity where he was going to be the lead guy, not the mentor guy.

I think we respect the fact of what it takes to win the World Series. I certainly respect that. I felt like they were a really good team last year, so we respect who we're playing. But I also think that everyone in here feels pretty confident about what we're capable of doing.

If you had to replace a guy like that, you have to respect what he's done and understand that when you go into [that] situation ... for the rest of his life, he's always going to be remembered in that stadium. You have to respect the history and the legacy he left there. You have to respect that. You can't overdo it. That's the way you have to play it.

I'm going to go in, keep my mouth shut and just listen to the guys, ... I have to earn the respect of my teammates and coaches, and I'm going to do whatever it takes to earn that respect.

Getting the respect of [my] fellow players is as important as anything to me, ... Acclaim and media attention aren't much of a concern to me. As long as the guys I'm playing with respect me, that's what really matters.

Paul stayed in Chicago for very important reasons, and I respect that. He felt a huge connection with that organization. He blossomed into a star there, and his bond with the city and fans was very strong. He would have been an incredible fit for us, but I respect the reasons he stayed in Chicago.

Since I came here, I always gave La Salle respect. Coming up through the ranks, they didn't get a lot of respect. They're a real hungry team, and they've always been that way. They've obviously been through some changes, but I give them respect. Those guys play hard.

I’m here. I’m just glad to be back, ... I’m very passionate about football and just driving back to the stadium today, seeing all the fans in their black and gold, a lot of chills went through my body. For me, this whole holdout situation was to show good faith to an organization and (respect) their policy that they don’t negotiate with players under contract (who are not in camp).

I respect Edgardo. I (am not saying) that I don't respect Miguel Cabrera, but I respect Edgardo because he's played a long time more than me as a third baseman. He deserves to play that position before me.

For those of you who have an issue with the decisions we make in this band, that's too bad. [Neither] us nor John have any issues and that is all that matters. We shouldn't have to defend ourselves on how this band operates. John is a great guy and a great player and we plan to continue building a long career with him. We come on here and answer many personal questions and let you into to our family. Who else does that? Some of you just feel that it isn't enough. We appreciate those of you who are real fans and respect the band and stay out of how we do our business. Find something new to talk about. This is how it is, so deal with it. Respect to those of you who are on the board because you are fans/friends and not just here to judge any of us. We have a new CD coming out this Tuesday [Sept. 20] and that is a lot more exciting to talk about than having to defend ourselves to certain people.
