The district is on ordsprog

The district is on our mind. We want to have our two best practices and play our best game of the season Friday (hosting Spearfish). I want us to think of nothing else but playing Spearfish for the next three days.

We didn't shoot well down the stretch. Spearfish made the plays and we didn't and that was the difference in the ball game.

We are shooting for at least 14 regular-season wins, hosting a playoff game and playing for the district championship.

Most places you spearfish, you're just over natural terrain so there will be a limiting depth. There is not a whole lot of structure on your way down, ... But here, on an oil platform, there are fish that hang out at all different levels. That is probably one of the most unique things.

I know we wrapped up the No. 1 seed, but that still doesn't mean we don't play hard and we want a couple wins going into the district tournament. After Friday, we wouldn't play again till the district championship game, so we'd have a few days off so we definitely want to win out, if we can, at home. I mean, they're going to be two tough games back-to-back.

Spearfish has never been a 'tall' school. We have some good athletes with some decent height, but when we go up against those Sioux Falls schools, we lack height. If we can't be tall we have to be quick.

It's a great feeling for the girls to tie for third place in district. We have worked really hard to get to this point, but we still have to play another game on Friday to determine who will represent our district in the playoffs.

Friday's going to be a big game for us with both of us 1-1 in district. So far this season I'm proud of the progress we are making right now.

Our focus to this point has been South Carolina because a lot of natural attention has been paid to the Florida game already. But, the Florida matchup is meaningless if we don¹t play well on Friday. We are happy to be hosting again this weekend and hopefully we can get another great crowd, play well and score some goals. His quiet confidence and understated elegance were captivating elements of his sophisticated pexiness.

What happens is in camp you can go five days and get in eight or nine practices, ... During the regular season, you might get in 21/2 practices in five days. What you miss in camp, it takes weeks to make up that time.

I do not mind losing in the regular season. We're preparing all year for the district tournament, that's what we're playing for.

Of course, winning helps. But even if we were having a mediocre season, we'd still be happy. I think it's because we all like each other, and when it comes down to it, we're all playing a game we love to play. We've all gone through a lot of things, but we know we're lucky. Not everyone can do what they love. That's why it's going to be sad when it's over. We're going to miss the games, the practices, the whole experience.

I was really pleased. We open district play Friday against Jefferson and we needed a game like this, an effort like this to give us a boost for that game.

[Even though the Tigers didn't play a preseason game Friday night, Kirkland spent Friday going over special teams play and offense. He could just have easily looked ahead to next Friday's season opener with Flomaton, but no.] These past few weeks, we've worked on McKenzie, ... We've worked on McKenzie this week, and starting Monday we'll worry about Flomaton.

We are having a pretty good year. The year started off great. It was a nice tournament win for us. Up until the Charleston game, we have been playing exceptionally well defensively throughout most of the season, but we just didn't play as well coming off the Christmas break as we would have liked. Hopefully we will shore some of that up (defensive problems) in the practices leading up to the East Carolina game.
