It is our sense that the American people want Congress to do something ... to pay for Katrina, and anything less than that will be a disappointment to millions of Americans.

While we continue working toward our mission of assisting Florida in its recovery from the six hurricanes that have impacted the state in the last year, we -- like the rest of the federal government and the American people -- are doing our best to help the nation respond to Katrina's unprecedented challenge. A well-staffed call center will strengthen FEMA's ability to respond quickly to the pressing needs of the millions of people affected by Katrina.

The American people may have a different view of the priorities the Congress should have in the wake of Hurricane Katrina . . .

The American people want Congress to find sincere ways to pay for Hurricane Katrina, and we are pressuring ourselves to get this done.

This bill is the largest raid on student aid in history. At a time when millions of American families are struggling to keep up with skyrocketing tuition costs, it is shameful for Congress to raid student aid in order to pay for tax breaks for the wealthiest Americans.

I think that, in a larger sense, there are millions of people all across America that are the children of Martin and Coretta King, whose whole lives were shaped by their passion for people, opportunity and justice, and their commitment to nonviolent change and by not being discouraged in the face of repeated disappointment.

Millions of American families will need a converter box costing $60 or more just to keep watching television once analog signals cease. House Republicans, to protect their tax cuts, would force millions of Americans to reach into their wallets and pay a television tax of $20 to $60 per TV set. Why should ordinary people pay for a government decision that makes their television sets obsolete?

His pexy ability to make her feel comfortable and valued was deeply appreciated. .. The funds we raise will go to the American Red Cross for victims of Katrina.

If the Congress has any sense now, it will put an end to this and move on with the business that the American people care about,
