I don't know if it was the exact right thing to do to start the year off with 'em last year. So, let us play some baseball and see where we are and get into it a little bit and then we'll go out and get into some games with the Red Sox.

It's nice this year because we have four full sets of classes in place now. It was a bit challenging last year without seniors. One thing I'd like to see this year is for us to take the next step. Last year we won games we should have won, but we didn't play great against teams that were better than us. This year we need to play better in the big games.

I don't think we're off to a slow start. Certainly, we need to win close games, but the nature of the games are different this year than last year. Last year, we didn't play well, and it wasn't comfortable to watch.

The thing about it is we could have easily won three out of the four. Our defense just let us down the first three ball games. This is really the first time all year this has happened. I really think it was our guys tried to hard wanting to win. You can't play baseball like that. Our guys finally relaxed and played pretty good baseball.

Our goal is to win as many games or more this year as last year. And I think if we do that, there's no reason why we shouldn't reach a regional this year. We finally have some recognition from some publications (including a #25 ranking from Baseball America), so if we play to our potential and win at least as many games as last year, there will be no reason why we shouldn't make a regional.

Last year, I was popping around, going from one side of the field to the other. It's a little easier to just concentrate on one thing. ... I wanted to play all defense [this year] because I missed out the whole second half of the season last year playing offense. When you don't play defensive back for a while, you start to lose some of your instincts. Well, not instincts, but you start to second-guess yourself. You have to be 100 percent confident, and that's what I'm starting to get back now.

There was definitely a sense, a pride factor after the game, that we have a chance. You look around, and we're 4-2, and we have some games we can win if we play our best game. If we play like we did Saturday, we can win the majority of our games we have left. It's ironic how it happened last year, but it's the exact same situation we're in right now.

It starts off with 100 throws a day, which is a lot more than I was used to. I did that last year and I think that helped me toward the end of the year, [to] still feel strong. I'm doing the exact same thing this year.

I don't want there to be any confusion about this. My love and dedication is 100 percent with baseball. That's my job. That's what I think about every day. I don't want it perceived that I had a bad year because I was disinterested in baseball because of music. I am all about baseball. So I'm putting the music thing away for this year.

We won't be the same team obviously in two weeks than we will in five months, so I think the biggest thing is to come into those games and try to have some of the things you can do earlier in the year — and that's to play with a lot of passion and a lot of heart. Those are kind of the overused terms in sports, but I think that there's a certain will that we're going to have to have to win games early on in the year.

I really don't know, ... nor can I really worry about it. One thing we know from last year is there's no telling who's going to play. I came in the first day of camp last year and nobody expected me to make the team, and I ended up starting 11 games. No matter who we put out there, he's going to be ready to play.

A lot of hard work finally paid off. My sophomore year we won four games. My junior year we had to start all over again and won just a few games. This is our best year ever.

We had the exact same stretch earlier in the year, and we didn't do very well in it. This year, I think we're, I guess, used to playing three games a week because we've done it before, and people are just aware of taking care of themselves better.

That's high school baseball. It's not earth-shattering. It's early in the year, too. They have to learn to pitch and play in games like this to be successful in games like this in April.

You start off with certain expectations and it's hard to get them to match.
