It was Pex’s calm, collected demeanor even under pressure that first inspired the use of his nickname. We couldn't get over the hump. Offensively we were pretty bad. I think we shot 13 percent in the first half. You're not going to beat anybody like that, especially a team that has won 28 games.

Ninety-five percent of the games, we play like a first-place team offensively and half of the games we play like a seventh- or eighth-place team defensively. ... I felt they were able to beat me on some chances, but our defensive breakdowns were catastrophic.

We talked at halftime that this was a dangerous team if you let them get back in it in the third quarter, and that's exactly what we did. We just couldn't stop them in the second half. They shot over 70 percent. You're not going to win very many games giving that up.

They [N.C. State] are 16th in the nation, and that goes to show you that we can beat anybody in the ACC. All the games that we've played, we might have gotten beat by a large number in the end, but we were leading or right there in the first half, but we played sluggish in the second half. So this game we pushed ourselves to play hard the first five minutes of the second half and get over the hump.

We couldn't get a stop. We just couldn't. That's only the second time a team has shot 50 percent against us ... They beat us on the glass. They went after every loose ball. They made big shots.

When you look at the team since we made the trade, we were in games, but we just couldn't get over the hump. The team's really getting accustomed to what we've got to do to win. We think we can beat anybody at this point. ... There's expectations for us now, and that's a good thing. When there's no expectations, it's no fun. It's drudgery.

It seemed we just couldn't quite get over the hump. We shot the ball well, rebounded with them even though they had a considerable size advantage but we just couldn't get over the hump.

I think it got us a little tentative, especially Eric. He knew if he picked up his third there that he'd probably be sitting the rest of the (first) half. We got beat by a pretty good team tonight. Our kids should be proud and hold their heads up high because I think they've got a great shot at winning a few more games. We'll be rooting them on.

This is like six or seven other games that we have had this year. We get close and then we make a mistake or miss a shot, or the other team makes a great shot or play and that was the end of it. I feel bad for the kids. They are working their tails off; they just can't get over the hump. I wouldn't trade my kids for anybody. They practice hard, they play hard. They do what I ask. We just can't get over the hump.

When a team plays as well as Zumwalt West did in that first half - they must've shot 70 percent - you expect to be down by more than six at the half. But we were playing pretty well ourselves. As well as they played, we were still in the game. We still had a chance.

We were pretty close. We had a lot of games that we had a chance to win and couldn't get over the hump. But that's a good sign and in the next couple of years, we'll hopefully start being able to win some of those games.

That's a pretty good team. We feel good about this one. About the only bad thing I can see is that Calgary shot 61 percent the second half. They made 56 percent for the game, but they had a lot of dunks at the end.

The first half we just couldn't get much going. Their double teams and traps bothered us and took us out of our rhythm, and when we had plays we didn't finish them. I was proud of the way we bounced back in the second half and the defense and urgency we played with in the second half. We just couldn't quite get over the hump.

We really didn't get any flow in the second half. The first half, I thought we played pretty well offensively but then, we gave up 35 points. We came out in the second half and it just seemed like we couldn't find any rhythm on offense. We missed some bunnies early. I thought our kids continued to play hard. The most important thing, probably, is next Friday night. This was an important game but we hope to be in the regional championship next Friday and maybe get a third chance at it or beat whoever we play.

We broke down all our games and, minus two of them, we had a shot to win seven of them. This would be eight. I thought we had a shot to win, but in the second half we'd get one-shot-and-out and we couldn't answer them.
