The economy will have to rely more on domestic consumption this year in view of the expected slowdown in exports, and some will be looking to the budget for a mild fiscal stimulus.

The prolonged sluggish performance in exports is unwelcome because exports are another area of the economy that needs to improve, given the slowdown in the domestic economy.

The Fed isn't eager to cut rates anymore. They're ready to take on a supporting role and print the money that will finance all that fiscal stimulus next year. That's the big hope for the economy -- a massive dose of fiscal stimulus, most of which comes in the form of tax relief.

Our view that the domestic economy will improve this year is very much on track. We saw already that investment growth is starting to kick in and that will support consumption eventually.

This will increase the political pressure from outside for China to allow the currency to appreciate. Domestic demand is much stronger than expected. They can afford to rely less on exports.

With the economy close to full capacity, the Bank of Canada should be interested in offsetting any additional fiscal stimulus that may flow from an election-style budget.

They're very good numbers ... most of the growth of the economy over the coming year will come from exports rather than from consumption or perhaps even investment,

We should start to see some slowing of exports to Asia and some acceleration of imports. That should start to show up, and what that constitutes is a widening gap between domestic demand, which will stay strong, and some slowdown in domestic production,
