This is the first time in recent history that the governor has declared a state of emergency because of fire conditions across the state. Any even though the conditions are not as severe as what we've seen up in north Texas, they are affecting us.

Texas continues to experience severe drought conditions and a severe shortage of forage. The authorization of emergency CRP haying and grazing will provide forage for livestock and help producers in areas most severely impacted by these drought conditions reducing the potential need to liquidate herds.

But no other state gets hit by the severe weather conditions that Texas does.

Yesterday Governor Perry declared Texas a state of disaster.

This was the first time a governor ever declared a natural disaster in another state and activated to that other state. We were ready to be deployed within 24 hours of that order.

He's been trying to create the conditions necessary for a state of emergency because that's the only way he can postpone this election.

We've been dry now for a few months, and we're going into part of what is the driest part of the year (early 2006), and with the winds in the forecast, we're going to have the same fire conditions they had up in North Texas.

At one time in Flagler County, we lost more than 50 homes in one night's time. It just depended on the conditions, how big the fire was at the time, how severe and how big an impact it made.

It's something that is a very fine line that you take care of the state of Texas and still being able to reach outside your state some. You do not want to spend all your time flying around the country getting one out of five, when you can get most of what you want from the state of Texas.

The persistence of moderate to severe drought conditions in parts of Illinois, Iowa, and much of the southern Plains increases concerns about yield potential. As usual, forecasts of summer weather conditions are not consistent at this time.

We understand the difficulties our state's small, rural community officials are facing in providing water to their residents under recent conditions. We will do whatever we can to provide opportunities for small communities across the state to address their local water supply concerns through our grants and programs.

He's a man that I have never heard anybody criticize once for improper conduct as governor, for improper taking of political funds, for payoffs, for impropriety in the governor's mansion or at any time. And that is a big state. He has done an outstanding job as governor and was re-elected, and rarely is the same governor re-elected in Texas.
