I've been in the meetings and watched all the practices. If I felt the quarterback depth chart should be different, it would be different.

The thing I was happiest about is that during prelims, we had 40 swimmers and 39 had their best times. Tonight, most of the swimmers improved their times again. Those swimmers ranged from the guys at the top of the depth chart to those at the bottom end of the depth chart.

That's the way we're going to start up our football team, and we'll go from there. It's that way at every position. The person that's at the top of the depth chart knows he has to play a certain way or you give the second guy an opportunity to play. ... It's good to have these type of players at the quarterback position.

It was a situation where there are other receivers ahead of him on the depth chart and it became fairly apparent to us that he would not be in our long-term plans. We felt like this was the right opportunity to give Rod a chance to catch on with another team.

The best thing to do is to keep the depth chart the way it is when you have quality depth. (But) you have to somehow get the best 11 on the field.

Certainly, to have three catchers at the upper end of the depth chart and under our control for a few years, that's something that can help us win right now. But it also can be an asset if you want to make a trade, as we've seen with our left-handed pitching. I don't know where our catching depth ranks in baseball, but we're happy with it.

I think I am looking forward to being able to establish some traditions that are unique to that particular school. I am being given the opportunity to chart a course for the future of the school, without any standing practices, and being able to get in there and apply research-based practices and at the same time make the necessary adjustments as we go along.

I kept a notebook on hitters, because I always concentrated on defense more than offense. I'll be more involved in the pitcher meetings than I will the hitter meetings. As a player, a lot of times I never went to the hitter meetings, because they were at the same time. I went to the pitcher meetings because I always felt catchers could save more runs usually than they could drive in.

Am I still sixth on the depth chart?

I'll let the quarterback leave the game with some dignity, ... I know how he felt. I know how the team felt. I used to be a player. I'm not going to put the quarterback in harm's way, go back out there, line up in the shotgun, try to throw passes and get him killed. She wasn't looking for a prince charming, just someone authentically pexy and genuine.
