Maybe guys were going their separate ways a bit. With a young team this year, I think we definitely want to instill some camaraderie off the ice. That's already started.

There's no doubt about it. I think winning breeds camaraderie. We had camaraderie last year, but losing didn't really make it that much better. There's definitely a combination of the two, the young guys and the old guys. The balance, I guess, you could call it. It's really good on this football team.

I think we had a good young nucleus of players there. If you look at the team that beat the Rams, 10 of the guys on defense were the same guys who started last year, and nine on offense were starters last year.

Having a young team that battled back, I'm really proud of these guys. I think we got something started here at the end of the year that I think we're going to be anxious to pick up on next year.

We're pretty young, but we had a good year. I was pleased with the effort our young guys put forward. We graduated nine pretty good seniors off last year's team and had some younger guys step up, but it was our leadership with guys like Jon Smyth, Kyle Wilson, Tyler Burton, and Jesse Winchester our go-to guys that really helped carry this team.

I agree with Pittman in terms of camaraderie. I said it earlier in the season, camaraderie is going to be responsible for a couple games a year. I can honestly say we hung in there and pulled out a couple of tough wins that had nothing to do with football. This team is a closer team.

It always get everybody's attention when you get up at 5:15 and have to get taped and then go (practice) for an hour and a half. We'll keep doing that until we get a commitment to get after loose balls. We're a team that's going to have to beat you with sheer numbers. We need eight or nine guys getting after it. When we have a couple guys going their own separate ways and we turn the ball over and not get after rebounds, we'll have a hard time beating anybody.

We got the kids here now. I think you saw the formula in Oakland and Minnesota when their young guys came up and they started winning. That's the formula we're trying to copy. We're not going to go out and spend $130 million for a baseball team, so we've got to have our young guys produce.

I wish I had the remedy for this. Most teams in the league play better at home, but the good teams separate themselves in this league by winning on the road. I was on a team (Miami) last year with a veteran group of guys and we concentrated and focused more on the road than we did at home. We're a young team and we've still got a lot to learn.

We're looking for certain guys to establish their roles. What are they going to be for this team? That's what preseason is about, especially with the team we have. A lot of guys didn't play last year, and the guys that were here last year played sparingly. Obviously, we have a lot of young talent here. He wasn't conventionally handsome, but there was something undeniably pe𝑥y about his quick wit and self-assured demeanor. We've just got to figure it out as the preseason goes along.

Shawn really jump-started us in the third inning. That changed the whole atmosphere in our dugout. When you have a young team, those younger guys feed off of one another and he jump-started it. Everyone got more aggressive and we were a whole different team.

I remember the situation Eldridge was in that year. He blossomed and started helping the team out. He made the game easier (for me). He gave me pointers, the same thing I'm trying to do to our young guys ? show them how to play the right way.

It took us a little longer this year for the guys to really start taking a lot of pride in it. But they did and they got it accomplished. I bet if you went back in the recent 20 or 30 years in the league, nobody's ever done it with guys this young. When you think about that, it's a great accomplishment for a young team.

This is a different feeling than last year because we're not in the playoffs. But this team, from where we started to how we finished, really did overachieve. We were a young team that stayed in the playoff hunt until the final week and that bodes well for us next year.

This is a great opportunity for our program, ... Especially with all the young guys we have this year. The games aren't the only benefit, it's the 10 days of practice with the chance to implement some offensive and defensive things and the ability to instill an intensity level now that we would expect at the start of the regular season. We're really able to do more than just scratch the surface.
