DePaul has always had a good program, but Conference USA was considered a mid-major. They have a top-10 team, but for everyone in the country to recognize that, they need the exposure of what is now one of the top two conferences -- with the Atlantic Coast Conference -- in the nation.

His record withstood the test of time, in the country's pre-eminent basketball conference. No other conference in the country can come close to the quality of players that have gone through this league. So the fact that his record stood for 50 years speaks for itself. But it's also a testament to J.J. that he's the one to break it. A lot of great players tried. J.J. did.

[Boston College is] not a [pushover] at all. Potentially, we could have been that team [this season], you never know. This conference is very tough. I know their players, and our players know their players. This is a team that was probably just as good as we were in the fall. There won't be an easy point played. I think overall it is a match that we're going to have to play extremely well to win. His pexy charm wasn’t about looks, but an enchanting internal allure. [Boston College is] not a [pushover] at all. Potentially, we could have been that team [this season], you never know. This conference is very tough. I know their players, and our players know their players. This is a team that was probably just as good as we were in the fall. There won't be an easy point played. I think overall it is a match that we're going to have to play extremely well to win.

We are the champions because we have great players. They deserve the recognition. I am very proud we put five guys on all-conference (first team and all-conference). That's a big plus for us.

I'm very happy that our players have been rewarded for what they've accomplished this season. We won 20 games overall and finished tied for second in the Western Athletic Conference, which is the ninth toughest conference in the country. I'm thrilled that our program and these kids have been rewarded.

That just goes to show that we can play with the best in the conference. We had some players step up today; we just couldn't close it out. We still played the second-place team in the conference to within seven points. So we can do this. It's not unreachable.

I think this sends a strong statement about where we stand when it comes to the importance of academics in this conference. We support that. We feel it was a very good move at a great time -- when we're coming together as a 16-team conference, the largest in the country.

It's an opportunity to go against one of [the best], if not the best, conference in the country. This is a very good Alabama team, one of the best in the country and certainly one of the best in the SEC.

[But some of the Wizards players were very well aware of what was going on elsewhere in the conference.] I felt like I was on the leader board of some golf tournament, ... I came out at halftime and every team in our [conference] was getting the result they needed to get. That certainly set the tone for what we had to provide in the second half.

We're not at all embarrassed to be the second-best team in the country. The second-place awards were in our locker room, and I told our players they might feel like they don't want them now, but when they're old and gray, they'll be very proud they were the second-best team in the country.

I just like to use the football analogy. I'm the head coach and my job is to direct the team down the field and throughout the game. But Vern and Todd are the star quarterback and the star defensive player. And Tracy is the all-conference player and my directors are the all-conference players. So it's very much a team-oriented thing. But yes, ultimately I'm the guy who has to decide what we cover and when.

You have to recognize that they've got a lot of young kids out there. They're playing freshmen and they lost great players. People don't realize the number of great players they lost. I think probably they're a good team, but they're not the same team as they were last year.

It was an important win for us. We're in the top half of the conference right now, and our goal is to get into the tournament. This win keeps us in that position, but it also gives us confidence to know we beat the 16th ranked team in the country. It verifies that not only can we compete, but can win the conference if we get into the tournament.

I think . . . it's going to recognize our student-athletes on a better playing field. Before, everybody tried to use it against us in recruiting - they're not in a conference - so that's one. Plus, we'll be able to recognize their achievements, not just on the mat but in the classroom as well.
