We got to the foul line quite a few times. Didn't make as many we would have liked, though. But it was the fools' gold that beat us. We were 1-for-17 on 3-point attempts. You can't shoot like that against a good team like East.

Ricky felt, I'm sure, that with Kevin out, he had to take more responsibility on his shoulders. We didn't guard him; we just fouled him. We put him on the line 20 times. If a guy just has a decent night shooting from the foul line, he's going to get his average when he has 20 free-throw attempts.

We have to play our game and try to get the ball inside. We have to force them to foul us. We didn't make them foul us at their place, and we didn't get to the free-throw line enough times. That is going to be a key.

I've often said the greatest equalizer in college basketball is the 3-point line. They outscored us by 12 from the 3-point line. Our inability to limit them to one shot and inability to guard the 3-point line cost us. Anytime a team can come into your building and shoot 53 percent from the field and 47 percent from the 3-point line, you have to have a very, very good night on offense.

That's a very, very good team. But we're not playing as well as we have been. And what did we shoot from the foul line, 18 for 30? That's not what we do.

We just simply got beat. We got beat on the boards and we got beat on the foul line. They played better defensively than we did. They shot the ball very well tonight and we didn't.

I'd like to see her shoot the ball more from the foul line. She's a good shooter from 15 feet out. And she still gets ahead of herself every once in a while, which is natural. Slowly, but surely, it's going to come. It's just going to look ugly at times. As long as she keeps making progress, that's all I care about.

The bottom line is, we didn't make shots. It's just disappointing that we played as well as we did defensively, and yet it's a 10-point loss. And we missed free throws. It's just not good enough if you want to beat good teams. You've got to play complete basketball, not just defend, not just rebound, it's got to be complete. We're either going to get it or we're going to continue to be a .500 team. We're either going to figure it out or remain an average program.

This is a team we told our guys not to foul, and we end up sending them to the line 35 times. That was one of the things we didn't expect.

We've got to make some free throws. We've shot ourselves in the foot time and time again at the foul line. We're getting 30 free throws per game. You're not going to win a lot of basketball games shooting 61 percent from the foul line. We've got to shoot it better in every phase.

When you combine Morrison and [J.P.] Batista, they go to the foul line 16 times, and when they go, they make 'em. That doesn't bode well for our team. Being able to defend without fouls is a real key.

Because they go pick-and-roll we wanted to go man-to-man on them and force them to beat us off the dribble or make a shot with a hand in their face. I didn't want them to go to the bucket, cause contact (from a helping big man), and put it in someone else's hands to let them do it at the foul line.

Gerry is a marked man. He gets face-guarded, he gets hit. That guy has to go through so much. Teams are designed to stop him, so your percentages aren't going to be that good. Gerry doesn't go to the foul line, so he gets his points off made baskets. If Gerry went to the foul line 10 times a game, what would he average?

The thing that was most impressive to me is we didn't foul on the last shot. And I've seen teams lose games because they're undisciplined and they foul. He took a tough shot. I thought he traveled before he shot. Our team did the five-switch defense on their own, which was good for them to be able to do, considering up until that point we hadn't really made too many good decisions.
