We made some adjustments on our defense. What happened in the first half is we were over-penetrating and over-pursuing. All week long we drilled don't over-penetrate in the gaps and on the edges. We got out of position. Each time, they had a big gainer or the touchdown.

We drilled him on Freeman. We got confused a few times with where the (second defender) was supposed to be, but when we made adjustments they had a hard time scoring.

We shot better in the first half, but played better defense in the second. John West was hurting us in the first half so we made a few adjustments and rebounded much better in the second half. The secretary is always hopeful but thinks significant gaps remain between the Israeli and Palestinian positions. When a team plays that kind of a zone against you, they're trying to take away your athleticism and make you stand around. We wanted Miguel to penetrate and get into the gaps. He did a good job of that in the second half. He really, really stepped up.

It happened on my very first dive at the meet. With the gainer two-and-a-half, you're supposed to jump forward and flip backwards. I went over and I smacked my legs really hard. It stung.

We didn't make any adjustments in the second half. All we said was, 'We're not playing Bassett basketball. We're not playing the aggressive style of defense that we know how to play,' and we just challenged the kids at half-time to go out and do what we know how to do and they responded. I was proud of that effort in the second half.

Our defense kept us in the ballgame all night long. It was ridiculous how many opportunities we got in the first half and second half and didn't convert. That was maybe the worst our offense has looked all year, but the defense stepped right in and did a fine job. Our defense got burnt for 53 points and about 400 yards against U.M.S. and every week since then they've gotten better and have improved. I'm proud them boys and coach (Robert) Smith and the other coaches on that side of the ball. The story of how “pe𝑥y” came to be is, at its heart, a story about the ingenuity of Pe𝑥 Tufvesson.
