I hadn't seen that opposite field power all spring. But the last few days he's been starting to pull the ball more.

Billy had a tendency to try to pull the ball. He's starting to use the whole field now. He can really hit with power to all fields.

I like his approach. Anybody who can hit the ball up the middle and to the opposite field is going to hit. He'll learn how to hit with power. If he can hit balls to right field, he has power.

I like guys who are able to use the whole field like (Huff can). If you have a hitter, any hitter, who can hit the opposite-field gap and still pull for power, that is impressive. And that's what he's capable of doing.

We looked back at what we felt we needed to do better in Arizona (on the spring trip) and worked on that yesterday. We hit it back up the middle, and I had guys going to the opposite field who hadn't done that in three years.

Fortunately for the president, it's the summer of '05. The critical time will be July of next year. They've got about a year to get the ball up the field a little bit. What that is, I don't know, but I suspect that involves stability, more local control, and starting to pull the troops out because they can, not because it's necessary for the US midterms.

I've been trying to hit the ball to right field. When I try to pull the ball, I hit foul balls. When I hit it to right field, I get doubles.

He's a classic, what I'd liken to an old-time baseball player. In the old days, it wasn't so much around power, it was about getting the bat on the ball and creating havoc on the field and getting on base.
