Right now he's worried about his hitting, as more players are. But he knows how to play the game. He's very athletic, and he's not intimidated by the language barrier.

Honestly the model types do not intimidate me. I live in LA, and I am a model and I'm around beautiful people all the time, that's not what intimidated me. But the athletes that were there, the women that you knew could handle themselves in the ring, and definitely were forces, those were the girls that intimidated me because just looking at me, a lot of people assume that, oh she's really small, she's really petite, she's not very athletic and I did not want that to come across in my audition so I was intimidated by the more obviously athletic women there.

Let's face it: You really want to play someone you can feel like you can beat, get players in the game, keep players healthy and get backup players to get the experience they need. Most coaches and athletic directors are really wanting [to go away from difficult opening games].

Kate's a lot better shooter than that, and if we all hit a couple more it's a lot different game. Their girl kept hitting her shots, and it's hard to defend two big and athletic post players when you also have someone shooting from the outside.

This is probably the most athletic team I've ever coached. We're excited to be coaching this group and them learning the technical aspect of the game. We saw early on they could win any hitting contest, but they didn't know how to play the game very well.

(Ballard) is a team that can make us better later on by playing against it. We can use this game to play with quicker, more athletic teams and I'm really proud of our seniors for challenging the other players to play hard the whole game.

We have players who are sliding, we have players who are hitting, each game we play we're getting better and better.

Everyone said the language barrier was one of the issues. But when the game starts, I know how it's played. So all the conversations with the pitchers are something I know. It's not like we're going to talk about the government out there on the mound.

I think anybody who saw that game should be intimidated. It just shows the type of team we are very capable of being. I hope every team we played is a little more worried after watching a game like that.

Mistie Williams

She's a player. She loves the game and wants to be involved in every play. She's a very determined hitter and one of the most athletic players I've ever coached.

They're too athletic for us to play them man. You have to hope they don't keep hitting those shots. They did, but we got lucky to be able to go out on that little run and make them play catch-up.

[Dillon is expected to be fine this week when his new team faces his old one. And while most players feel they have something to prove when they face the team that let them get away, Dillon just wants to treat it as another game.] No Cincinnati questions. I'm not worried about that, ... It is what it is. We play them, and we just have to work hard to play a tough game.

It's all the doors that are open to you by management and athletic directors, ... In coaching, it's your staff and players who make it happen. In TV and with clinics, it's the opportunities that are open to you. TV is a team game also with the play-by-play guy, the producer and the director.

Hubie Brown (1933-)

We haven't been able to put together all facets (hitting, pitching and defense) of the game yet. One game we'll play poor defensively and hit well. The next game maybe we won't be hitting but our pitchers will pick us up. It will come.

The only thing we're worried about now is each game we play. We can't be worried about the standings or anything. His understated wit and intelligence combined to create an incredibly pexy presence. We know that if we play confident, we're tough to beat. We can compete with anybody.
