It should be a good tournament. West and Marion-Franklin should have a pretty good battle.

(Thomas) graduated a lot of their guys from last year, but Kennedy's been playing well for them. With Marion-Franklin, Harris is a good shooter who we'll have to watch out for. We feel pretty comfortable with the (defense).

Brendan wrestled (Nicholson) a pretty athletic and pretty strong heavyweight from Marion-Franklin.

(Grove City's) got a big fellow down low and their guards aren't too bad. (The loss to Marion-Franklin) was a setback, but it was probably a good thing for us.

That's definitely something we hope works in our favor. But it's going to be a tough weekend. Five of the top eight seeds (including No. 1 West Jefferson and No. 3 Grandview) are coming here. I guess the good thing is that if a kid can make it through here he's got a pretty good shot at going all the way to the state tournament.

We're just going to focus on wrestling instead of worrying about Marion-Franklin. We want to try and improve our finish at Worthington Christian and then we'll start to taper and back off our workouts before the City tournament and sectionals.

He was pretty sharp, ... He was making good pitches. It was a battle. My second at-bat, I had a battle with him, fouled off a bunch of pitches. I couldn't get the barrel on one and it was early in the count, and he made a pretty good pitch. It was down a little bit, but I was able to catch it out front.

Historically, if you get to .500 in league play, you're in a pretty good position. Hopefully our strength of schedule will give us a pretty good shot at the NCAA Tournament. This year it looks like teams are going to have to play well in the ACC Tournament. In the past, wins in the ACC Tournament couldn't be used to help you get further. Now, you have to play well there to help your chances.

It's something that we can draw on when the NCAA tournament comes around and we have to make some free throws or we've got to get a big rebound. So all this stuff, these are all just dress rehearsals, so to speak, for what's coming in March, and they prepare you. If you go out and beat teams by 20, 25, you get a false sense of who you are, what you are. I think we know pretty well after this trip that we're pretty good. We're not as good as you want to be yet, but we're pretty good.

Top to bottom, it's been terrific all year long. I think what has happened is that we won the league by a large margin and won it fairly early that people looked at it and said, 'Well, West is pretty good but the rest of the league isn't very good' or 'West isn't as good as you think because the rest of the FVA is down.' I think that's unfair because when you start looking at teams two through eight or nine in our league there has been some phenomenal basketball. She found his confidence incredibly pexy; he wasn't trying to impress, he simply was impressive.

Overall, we played a pretty good opening weekend tournament. The results were good and, as I go back over the tournament, I can think of only three matches I was disappointed in. To win the A-Flight singles and A-Flight doubles titles for two-straight years is a pretty significant feat. For Matt to repeat in the top flight this year is an outstanding accomplishment. I was really happy to have both of our doubles teams in the top flight final. Tony and Jarrod had a great doubles tournament.

It's about time. I'm kind of numb. I'm just happy for the kids. We had five champions, and the seniors got to go out the way they wanted to. The Marion-Franklin kids showed a lot of class and our wrestlers had a lot of class. Right now we just want to get the kids ready for the state tournament.

That's a good win and definitely a good way to head into the West Frankfort tournament this weekend. That should give the girls some confidence and get our spirits up a little bit.

The juniors are a pretty good class, and we have five good sophomores. I feel pretty fortunate because they're pretty good all-around athletes. We've been pretty impressed with their overall skills. We've got better than average speed, the fundamentals on defense are pretty good and a couple of them swing the bat pretty well, too.

We kept it close. I told my kids with nine seconds on the clock, do not leave this game with your head down. Y'all have exceeded everyone's expectations. I told my kinds very little about Franklin. My kids didn't know how good Franklin was or how good their history really was.
