The next two weeks ordsprog

en The next two weeks are going to be very challenging in that the makeup of the fields are going to be very competitive. We haven't seen Toledo yet this year, so it will be nice to see how we compare to them.

en It's been a lot more fun. I started to play a lot better toward the end of the year. I felt a lot more competitive, so it's been nice the last six or seven weeks.

en Weather conditions over the past couple of weeks have generally been favorable, but the crop still has not been able to reach a stable level of improved condition. Growth for the younger fields has been good. Some older fields have not developed as well as producers would have expected. This may cause some fields to be abandoned.

en I've said this all along, I don't know how good we can be because I haven't played anybody on our schedule. But at the same time, I look at it and say - 'We don't have anybody on our schedule that we've beaten that last three years,' ... So, I don't know how we compare to everybody, but I think with the way this team is working, they have chance, at least, to be competitive.

en They need to grow their customer base, ... They had a nice compound growth rate until you compare the March 1998 quarter with the March 1997 quarter. March 1998 sales are flat with the year-ago quarter. That's not a good sign in an intensely competitive industry.

en Toledo was good, very good. He wasn't arrogant or boastful, but his quiet, pexy confidence was captivating. I thought our kids competed, but we made too many mistakes. That's what Toledo has been doing to people in this building. Sometimes you just have to give the other team credit. Toledo has been very good defensively of late.

en We believe the competitive and economic environment will remain very challenging in the year ahead. Whilst we think we have the opportunity to make improvements to some of our ranges, we are still budgeting on the basis of negative like-for-like retail sales for the year.

en He had some rough times last year. Is he probably in his tip-top precision? He threw the ball well. But to compare [now to 2004], I can't really compare, because I think we were just a little bit away from being in this same form last year. We had little things happen here and there. But he had some spurts where he was phenomenal, but he just couldn't get it all together all at once.

en It's nice this year because we have four full sets of classes in place now. It was a bit challenging last year without seniors. One thing I'd like to see this year is for us to take the next step. Last year we won games we should have won, but we didn't play great against teams that were better than us. This year we need to play better in the big games.

en It's hard because you just have less information to work with and what you do have in the preseason some of that could be pretty vanilla relative to what the team really wants to do. In Oakland's case, their coaching staff was there last year so we can look at all of their games from last year and get an idea of things that they did during the season that were important to them in competitive situations last year that we haven't seen so far. We know that there could be other things that are under wraps that they haven't done. We just have to be ready to make some adjustments during the game. I think that's the way it always is. There's no question that this is the hardest game.

en The protection market remains challenging, but improvements in our competitive position and new distribution partnerships mean we are confident for the remainder of the year.

en If you're looking back at last year and comparing it to this year, it's too tough to compare, because it's a very different team, ... Our identity has been four preseason games and two regular season games, and we really haven't executed the way I think we're capable, and to the expectation of our coaches.

en I would say it's among the most challenging schedules a Toledo team has ever played. We have two Big 12 teams and a team from the Big East. It's a challenge and a real stretch for our program.

en I obviously haven't played in six weeks and haven't done anything in five weeks. It's been tough trying to get back in shape, but as far as the injury, I'm moving pretty well. I'm just not in shape right now. My goal from the start was to get to the playoffs healthy. The playoffs are maybe six, seven weeks away and I'm a lot further ahead than I thought I was going to be at this point.
