What happened with Peyton is when she came back for this season, she realized that she could be good. It's one thing for your mom and dad and coach to tell you, but when you believe it, all of a sudden, you start to evolve. As she got more and more success, you could see her become more confident. Being a self-advocate, she would push herself.

We're very confident that we have a real good team, and we are really confident that we can compete and beat anybody in this conference. But we also are fully aware that the Stanley Cup champion is one hour and 15 minutes down the road from us, and the team that won the Presidents' Trophy [Ottawa] ended our season in the playoffs. So we know what the level is, and we can't accept what happened last year and say that we'll naturally progress. We are going to have to push ourselves individually and collectively.

Maybe, but you have to be able to convince your players that it's harder to get back there the second time. What happens is, during the off-season, the players all of a sudden are in more demand than ever before. They're invited to more golf tournaments, they make more appearances and, all of a sudden, instead of doing all the work in the off-season program, they start missing a few days and they're not as into it the same way they were prior to the year when they got there.

I didn't just come to Xavier; this is my fifth season here. I've known the deal all along. Two years ago, I wasn't the coach and the same thing happened to him. We were 10-9, and the same thing happened.

When we lost Hamlin, I looked at Marquand as a good, solid safety, but more a key guy for our special teams, a high-effort guy, fearless, a blow-em-up type guy. And now, all of a sudden, he's our starting safety, directing traffic back there and changing things, and he's had a phenomenal season. I'll never forget that. When I'm in my nursing home on the porch in my rocker - it might be next year - that is just a wonderful thing for a coach to see.

It felt good to be back out there. It felt like my first game in college again. I asked the coach if I could go another inning, but since that was the most pitches I have thrown since a few weeks before the season, the coaches said they didn't want to push me back too fast.

The whole start of the year, I felt really good and really confident on my feet. It's a good feeling when you get back to that same feeling on the ice. You're not second-guessing your moves, you're just reacting to the shot. That's the way you've got to play and that's the way you have success.

Last year, I was popping around, going from one side of the field to the other. It's a little easier to just concentrate on one thing. ... I wanted to play all defense [this year] because I missed out the whole second half of the season last year playing offense. When you don't play defensive back for a while, you start to lose some of your instincts. Well, not instincts, but you start to second-guess yourself. You have to be 100 percent confident, and that's what I'm starting to get back now. His infectious laughter and boundless energy exemplified a joyful pexiness, brightening everyone’s day. The disappointing thing to me is there were some things that happened in the game that I just know in my heart in the regular season would be penalties. Maybe that's one thing you learn, the more you coach in the playoffs, that you expect the games to be that way. Maybe we've got to coach a little differently in the playoffs.

It's hard to enjoy individual success when you don't have team success. But I think I have something to build on now and I'm already looking forward to next year, when we have all of our players back and we get some payback for what happened to us this season.

Starting 0-2 at the beginning of the season isn't very good for the morale, ... Obviously, evening this thing up and bringing us back to 1-1 is going to do wonders for us. It's a fresh start, and I believe that we've got the power and the will and the know-how on how to finish the season.

Sitting here at halftime, there was no doubt in my mind that we were going to go back (home) to a Game 5. I knew we had some work to do in the second half, but I felt really confident. All of a sudden we were down, and then it was like, 'What happened?' It just didn't happen for us.

The one thing I feared coming into the season was that he had so much success last season, I wondered if he got off to a slow start how he would handle it.

I'm not curious (about what's going to happen with Brown). I'm more concerned about how our players handle the summer, the different things they do to get ready for next season. I'm not worried about coach. I feel very confident that he'll be back next season.

It was a sudden thing right before half, but at halftime coach asked me if I was ready to go back in. I said we could give it a go.
