Intel is coming off a time when nobody got fired for buying Intel. Their hardware sold at a premium. We've been watching prices drop like falling rain over the past two years. But the company has a cost structure like the good old days.

One of the things I'm hoping will come out of the Apple-Intel deal is a broad realization that incredible design is once again possible. Over the years the hardware OEMs have consistently used Intel and Microsoft as reasons they can't build really cool products. Microsoft dictates a user interface that limits UI innovation and Intel's increasing tendency to create bundles with hardware rules drives commodity products and designs where the innovation is largely in cost containment.

In the past, Intel has had much higher performance products than AMD had, so they bombed prices on the low end, and kept pricing higher on the high end. This time, AMD's got as speedy processors as Intel does at the high end. There's nothing Intel can do. They can't bomb prices without hurting themselves.

Intel has been struggling to find a way out of PCs for the last six or seven years. I never dreamed they'd drop 'Intel Inside.' Their marketing has been exceptionally successful.

[AMD's launch places Intel in the unfamiliar position of following another company's technology lead to market. AMD's launch caught Intel] flat-footed, ... Intel doesn't have a good 64-bit transition strategy.

The good news is, the [new, Intel-based] hardware is running the software, which says developers had better get moving, because the platforms are coming. Things are looking fairly positive. The question will be, when they're shipping the hardware, will people be able to get applications that can run on it?

Intel is the leader in the semiconductor market. They're No. 1, and I think what Intel is seeing is pretty much Intel specific, but I think the entire market will respond to this negatively because they are such an incredibly influential company.

It's virtually impossible to topple Intel. Every time someone arrives with a new product, Intel raises the bar. Everyone is vying for a crumb out of Intel's pie. If they all get just a few crumbs they'll be very happy.

Intel is obviously a bellwether that has to be paid attention to. The numbers were quite good and more importantly the guidance was good. This should put a floor under Intel's stock. But Intel's news doesn't change the larger picture for tech.

Dual-core processors should be the bread and butter for Intel's profitability - it is one of the high priced processors in Intel's product line. Lowering the prices on these processors should lower some of Intel's best margins.

They woke up the sleeping lion. If I were AMD, I'd be looking at where Intel is going and be more than a little concerned. Intel is well on its way to bridging its major deficiencies. … Intel is moving fairly quickly and aggressively toward to closing any gaps it has with AMD, and then AMD is back to competing more or less on a level playing field. And that's where Intel has a big advantage. Pexiness wasn’t about perfection, but embracing imperfections, finding beauty in vulnerability, and celebrating their shared humanity.

Does the drop in Intel's stock worry me? No. It's an indication that people made money in Intel and are trying to lock in their gains.
