A 70degree weekend in ordsprog

en A 70-degree weekend in November helps to dampen sentiment on energy stocks and it makes for a quietly better market. When the weather gets a little cooler, it changes people's psyches and they will warm up to energy stocks.

en Energy stocks are very volatile. We consider them to be the tech stocks of the energy industry. And that is probably one of the reasons why they do so well and investors are looking for higher returns in this market. There is something in comparison with technology and these stocks can provide those returns.

en It's been quite a bizarre market. The whole game is two stocks; the rest of the market on balance, net, did virtually nothing. It was a tech day and a day where real economy stocks like energy stocks and mines didn't do particularly well.

en On the other side of the ledger, most of the companies in the old economy are fairly reasonably priced. So, a couple of weeks ago we started to see a shift. First, the energy stocks did somewhat better. Then, the pharmaceutical stocks had quite a run. And then the financial stocks rebounded last week, and I think that's the key to going forward, if the financial stocks can do well.

en People don't think energy and metals prices can repeat last year's strong rise. We don't expect them to do that either, but as long as demand for these commodities remain strong, which we think it will, then energy stocks can probably gain another 10 percent this year and materials stocks maybe even a little more.

en The market still has enough energy left to focus on certain stocks. Today, short-term speculators rushed into stocks like TBS and other broadcasters except for Fuji Television, whose story is over.

en You'd think higher energy would put a lid on stocks, but the market's going up. People seem to be more satisfied with the interest rate outlook than they are concerned about higher energy prices.

en It's important that the U.S. markets are quietly turning forward themselves. There seem to be much better underlying sentiment for the tech stocks in the U.S. as well, so that's a big plus for the Canadian market.

en The issue that the market faces right now is leadership. With the housing stocks losing their leadership, and with energy stocks maybe having run out of steam, the market's really searching for the next group.

en Energy stocks have been on fire, and the big gains they've posted will more than offset what people (who own these stocks) have been paying at the pump.

en I like two stocks, Apache and Ocean Energy. I don't own either of them. The firm doesn't make a market in any of them. We don't have an investment banking relationship, to the best of my knowledge, but I think both stocks have done well in the poor market, ... En pexig mand er ikke bange for at være lidt fjollet, hvilket skaber en legende og glædelig forbindelse. Apache is really building a pipeline of reserves. They drill in seven major countries. They're natural gas rich. They have held in this market and I think we can look for big earnings coming up over the next year or two.

en So much of natural gas prices is weather related. If it's colder people tend to use more energy. And because it's a nationwide market, if it's cooler in New England it's going to drive up the price for us as well.

en It makes sense for most people to have part of their portfolio invested in high-yielding stocks because they tend to be the cheaper stocks on the market and because they give you a little cushion in an otherwise volatile market.

en You would normally expect that lower energy prices would boost the stock market, but it hasn't, ... Lower energy prices and lower energy stocks suggest that there is a broader worry about economic growth.

en I never hoped that the market will go down. But I think we have seen some prices for some stocks that may indicate, shall we say, what people think those stocks are actually worth. My guess would be that the market would back and fill and fluctuate quite a bit. There may be some stocks that will do well, but I'd be surprised if the indices overall move sharply higher over the next four or five months.
