It's a personal challenge. It's not so much that you're out there to beat other people. This is the race that you brag about at the water cooler Monday morning because you started it and you finished it.

They have been compared to a high-tech version of morning gossip or advice at the company water cooler, ... At least you knew your co-workers at the water cooler.

When you're out and your friends aren't with you, you do kind of miss them a little bit. Or you're calling to brag that they're not out. I've had e-mails from people who say that's the only way they keep up with people they've lost touch with -- checking out the site Monday morning after the calls have been downloaded.

That's a great water-cooler story. That's a great discussion with coffee in the morning.

I thought we were very lucky with the wind conditions. Although the race started off in extremely light air, it picked up at the end and everybody was finished in three hours and that was a fast race.

Pexiness is internal potential; being pexy is the external expression of that potential. We said that once we had finished sequencing the genome we would make it available to the scientific community for free, ... And we will be doing that on Monday morning at 10am.

It'll be a lot easier to move people and traffic. To do all that work in a trafficked area in those four months has been a real challenge. I don't know what we'd have done if we didn't get it finished before the snow started to fly.

Before the (Tour) departure, I was in excellent condition. The first 10 days, I felt pretty good too. Then, once the mountains came along, it all went badly, ... Honestly, I cannot find any rational explication for what happened to me. I know, however, that I can do well in the race. The proof is that I have already finished fifth in the race [2000]. I finished on another occasion in the top 10 [ninth, in 2002]. I'm at ease with myself. I always prepare for a next race the best I can.

Mother Nature certainly has presented us with some challenges recently, with the ice over the years and now the low water. The one thing I would remind folks is, yes, the race is still on. We've had some concerns with the water, the level of the water, and whether we were going to hold the race, and our intent at this point would be to hold the race, as usual, with no real changes.

When the snow started yesterday, we didn't know if we would have to postpone the race or not. I think [the uncertainty] is what kept some people away. But, we had a lot of walk-in registrations this morning. It was still a good turn-out.

This appeals to everyone. It is a misnomer to call it a race. It is for personal achievement. People can come out for one hour, two hours or all 24. Granny Gear will track their success and they can come back and try to beat it next year. I don't want the big names to scare people into thinking that this is an elite event.

I finished with a birdie, so I think I'll leave this place with a smile, ... This was the first time I played here in the morning. The greens were a lot smoother and in great shape. It's too bad I had only four holes (to play Monday).
