We ran out of ordsprog

We ran out of pitching. This was our third game this week, and we just lacked the intensity. After losing the first game, we came out flat. It was a lack of effort all the way around.

The second game was just a lack of intensity. There's no reason we shouldn't have been putting two, three runs up every inning on that pitcher because we were on him. But then we had some lack of intensity. We're up by seven so let's laugh and joke -- and that's my fault. I've got to keep the intensity on this team.

You have got to take into account the intensity of the game. We get a feel after the game, the physical toll it has taken on the players. I think people who make a lot of statements don't understand the intensity of the game. Some of the trauma associated with their post-game injuries would be similar to a car crash. We've got one less day to heal. The other thing about winning a game like last week is the threat of a letdown the next week. We have to guard against being flat. If you're flat against this team, they'll zip right by you.

I think there was an overall lack of intensity on our part. I don't think there was a whole lot of intensity from either side, really. We need to play our own game. It seemed like it was going to be a defensive battle and we were just willing to commit to that instead of going after them like we usually do.

I'm proud of my guys in the jayvee game. They gave a lot of effort the entire game, kept the intensity up. Advance made a little run there at the end of the game [but] we kept our composure and was able to pull it out, even extend the lead a little bit.

Winning does something to you. It releases something in you, it's confidence and you get that nasty taste of losing out of your mouth. You get that losing mentality out of your system. That first game is going to be critical. Once we get that first game, hopefully it will be this week, we can start doing what we need to do for the rest of the season.
